CrazyPolak, I know how you feel its so frustrating when you cant or dont do anything for weeks, always in the back of my mind I think "hmm I should probably be doing something to the escort"

This morning I managed to get the rear section of the exhaust tunnel made up and screwed in, Im not going to get a chance to do anymore now, but hopefully I can spend a couple of hours welding it in tomorrow night!

    Thanks a lot!

Not much progress this week, got the car off the rollover jig and rolling again which was a good feeling! Now I can get on with fitting the rear panel, and all the panels bulkhead forward! I also ordered a zetec fitting kit so I can get my engine in and make the gearbox mounts up!

Thanks, did you manage to get anything done?

here is todays progress, I was hoping to get the rear panel welded but ran out of time.

Cut the rear panel off and fixed all the nasty bits that I found

Then I got the rear panel fitting fairly well and clamped on, another day next weekend should have it all welded up and finished

    Looking good again.

Yep made a start finished of a couple of small repairs sill closure and spring hanger repair started on the seam welding I will update post when I get time.

The aim is to have the shell completely finished by the end of October in between jobs but depends if work goes mad again....

I've been collecting lots of parts though

Look forward to seeing it, I think October would be a bit ambitious for me. Im going to aim for christmas to have the shell finished, there isn't a ton to do on it but now the evenings are drawing in I can only really do weekends on it.

    great work going on

can you answer a few on the full floor fit please, what bracing did you use on shell other than door braces? are the 2 box sections under floor bracing or part of spit ? i am considering going same route but concerned as i know my rails need replacing also ............

Thanks guys! Nothing new to post I haven't had a chance to do anything to the car for the past 2 weeks

Alladdin I only used the door braces, I was concerned that I didn't have enough bracing but I was careful and made sure there was no unnecessary strain put on the shell. As you say, the box section you see is part of the spit. I would say if you aren't going to use extra bracing, fit the chassis rails and don't weld them to the floor then remove the floor. I measured my shell before and after and there was no movement at all. The obvious problem you have is that the more bracing you use the more difficult it is to actually get the floor in position.

    Re: MK1 Escort restorartion

I only used door bracing between the pillars and one across the front chassis rails for the inner wing replacement and didn't have any problems. As Kebab says to much bracing and you can't do the work.

Managed to spare a few hours on sunday and get the spare wheel well sorted out, It fitted terribly, much worse than the tank side! I managed to get if fitting reasonable well, needs some slight fettling to get it spot on now! another weekend or so and I should be starting on the front end of the car, I will be happy when that is done because that will be the last of the rot in the car sorted out! sorry for the crappy pics, it was pretty dark and hard to get decent light for the shots.

    Thanks for the comments guys!

I managed to get nearly a full day on the car today so I set about sorting the upper bulkhead, it wasn't that rotten but it had some cody welding on it in the past and I prefer to just cut it out and do it right!

Just need to spot weld across the front lip and grind back the welds on the top before I start the other side!

Thanks, they came from expressed panels, I think they were about £160 a side so not that cheap really but they fit pretty well so can't complain!

Managed to get the other side repaired and fitted today, also spot welded the drivers side that I didn't have time to finish yesterday

needed to repair further down the splash panel on this side

There was a swage that I wanted to keep so I hammer formed a swage into the repair panel as I don't have a swage machine where I'm working on the car!

All the repair sections welded in place

Sprayed up with zinc primer before the bulked repair panel was fitted

    Drivers side all spot welded

Both sides fitted, spot welded, ground back and etch primed

    Re: MK1 Escort restorartion

Today I Planned on cleaning up all the bare metal and priming it, this weather has started to make all the new metal go rusty so its best to catch it while its not too bad, but I ended fitting the rear seat which is another job I have had on the cards for a while.

    here are the pics

There are still a few bits to finish, weld up the piece in the middle and also weld up the sides, I left the sides un welded because I wanted to put a straight edge across the 2 panels to make sure they were straight before I welded them in.

Had a morning free today so I decided to get all the bare metal cleaned up and painted. Not major progress but it looks like its coming together at least now! I also finished off the seat brace and got that all welded up.

No progress on the shell to report so far this week but I did receive my freshly ported head back from Andrew@ALD I have to say the work is first rate, He has done a lovely job on it, I also had larger valves and uprated springs fitted while it was with him. Here are the before and after pics.

Managed to do some small jobs on the car this weekend. I welded the inner wing supports in and got them all cleaned up and primed ready for fitting....hopefully making a start next weekend! I also made a little repair section for the rear bumper mounting as my spare wheel well was completely the wrong shape.
    here are the pics.

    Thanks mark!
During my lunch break I began to shape up some parts for an aluminium heater bubble, I have decided to make it from aluminium as I am going to have it removable and have my break fluid reservoirs hidden under it!
Here is the progress so far, I hammer formed the more intricate shape on the corners, the bulbous shape will be formed on the english wheel. I am making it from 4 pieces as this makes it easier for shaping!

Thanks guys. Yes GMB77N the 4 sections will be gas welded together and then planished.

managed to find time to quickly wheel up the next section of the heater bubble today, I only have the front section to make before I can weld it all together!

Lordy, that's some pretty comprehensive fabrication work going on there. Amazing attention to detail. I'm based in St Austell - are you in this neck of the woods?
