Front cross member

How difficult is it to change the front cross member on a S1 ?

How much is it likely to cost me to get it done ??

Slim do you mean the box section under the radiator?

If so it is a bit of a pain as you need to remove the front panel as well, which will need a replacement.
How bad is it? is it rotten or damaged? and are you just trying to keep it solid or do you want everything original?
It may be possible to cut any rot back and weld in some patches.

Need to see with the radiator out really, I can see the crack in the corner, should be able to make a plate to go over that OK, but depends how far in the rust goes.

It is actually a hole just below the jubilee clip in the pic about the size of an egg.

Oh yeah I see now, the edge of the hole is what I thought was cracked.

I`ll think i will have to get it done soon b 4 it gets too bad.
The rad has to come out anyway as it is falling apart

Sorry to hear that you need some welding doing :o. I got my radiater from Anglia Radiaters in cambridge, will look up there number if you want. Cost me £70/80 I think. As for ease of doing it. It all depends on how bad it is. I can get hold of a Ford front panel if you need one. ( I have one in the shed but thats for my car lol)

£25 for the xmember and you dont have to remove the ft panel but the guy at the mot station said that it is still quite solid at the mo so was just going to do it when I got around tuit

Have you soirted that 5 th gear prob yet ?

Ohhh very good i will patch it for now if poss. im going to start collecting panels this year then do a resto next winter before it gets to bad . As for the prob i just dunno where to start looking . I will be getting in contact with u soon about some brakes as its a bit of a bummer to slow it down at times
