    Clints RS2000 Restoration

Thought it was about time I got started on this again so here is the latest:

I decided to fit the tunnel today as it is big and I kept tripping over it.

Started off by cutting out the gearstick gaiter plate (so this can be used later when the box is positioned)

Then I found this unsavoury character lurking under the car:

After removing the gearstick plate I set about the old tunnel and floor with my plasma cutter.
Which left this huge hole in the floor:

Then the tunnel was screwed in to place, the floor was trimmed at the edges, and I started welding the new part in place.

Sorry about the poor focus on these, I think I had inhaled to many wleding and cutting fumes to see straight by this time.

No it doesn't need to be that big, but Clint picked it out,
I think it is a substitute for something lol.

Seriously it just makes it much easier to position the box, and to work on it afterwards, most rally cars are prepped with huge transmission tunnels for ease of installation/maintenance.

It doesn't quite fit properly though!!

Not too bad but needed a bit of creative bending.

You actually got round to doing some work in the end then? :-) Too many people holding you up!

It was nice to see the car in the flesh after seeing all these posts on here! Keep the pictures coming, much better entertainment than any soap!

    Clint,
I don't know what you mean by the University Challenge remark, and don't forget all the little bits of the interior I'm still missing ( BTW I haven't forgotten the spot lamps, I'm still looking for them !!!)

Kieron, Sorry I missed you on saturday at Mark's

The tunnel needed a lot of massaging at the front as the floor of the car is a different shape each side and the new tunnel is symmetrical ... DOH !

Rob, No worries mate. I think Mark was trying to get rid of me as-quick-as-pos anyhow! :-)

Hopefully during the summer I will bring my car to some of the Kent meets.

I wasn't trying to get rid of you but it gets a bit messy when I start cutting bits off of the car, and you had your posh "going shopping" clothes on lol ;-) (did you get talked in to that shoe shopping trip??)

It was a bit of a crazy day, sometimes there seems to be a constant stream of visitors, but still got a fair bit done so I was happy.

    Re: Clints RS2000 Restoration

I know what its like & I was only Jokin! Unfortunately though I did get dragged around Lakeside till me legs felt like they were going to drop off! The funny thing was I put old clothes on cause I thought your workshop may have been greasy so I probably looked like a tramp walking round there! I cant understand why people get all dressed up to go shopping anyhow!!

Any ideas on why my Sigs are not working anymore?? No-ones answered me post on the main message board!

Here are some clearer shots of the new tunnel,
as you can see the existing floor has a overlap on the underside, when finished it will be welded from the inside and underneath.

That's a wierd angle looking from underneath, it looks like one of them inside out cube drawings. (does that make sense) ?

    Re: Clints RS2000 Restoration

Ok Mark, spill the beens (if you are allowed) what's the set up going to be front and rear?

Rear - 4 link, panhard rod or watts? Brakes, S2 cossie 4x4 or bigger? Atlas I take it with coilovers.

Front - Adjustable TCA's? Excentric tops? coliovers of course, no compression struts? what brakes? I hade 315mm on my Mk1 but that was lame on the power front in comparison.

Don't worry if the above is a suprise!

    Re: Clints RS2000 Restoration

    Magrah,

Clint will have to update you fully on the mechanical spec, but the shell is being prepped as follows:

Seam welded (per rallye preperation instructions)
Gp4 body gussets, bulkhead strengthener and floor skids.
Large transmission and diff tunnels (per Gp4)
4 Link Axle location using beefed up wider bars with larger rod ends and bushes, due to the berserk power output.
    Watts Linkage.
Turrets at the rear with coilovers.
Tubbed arches, Gp4 alloy Tarmac Arch kit.
    Weld in cage
    Exhaust tunnel?? Maybe?
Chassis mount kit for the engine.

Clint can advise on all his goodies for engine, brakes, transmission, suspension etc. (pretty trick)
