My rx8 box is in, mated to an XE with one of freddys plates. I took it for a run this afternoon and first impressions are very good. Look forward to giving it a hard time.

Hi chaps, very interested in putting this set up in a phoenix kit car with a zetec but tunnel size may be an issue. Has any one measured up the rx8 gearbox dimension?? I've read through 90% of the thread but can't see any dimensions. thanks!
The bellhousing is a fair bit bigger thesn the type 9 apart from that it is pretty much the same size and the stick comes up in the type9 hole nicely. If my box was out of the car i would measure it up for you but it is hard to get to ans measure properly at the moment. If i was you i would buy one now try it in the tunnel if it doesn't fit by the time you come to sell it, it should have gone up in value.

Any plans to do some Essex V6 to RX8 6 speed plates Freddy?
Had the idea of doing the conversion so got some of the bits together but can't really trust the quality of p9yco's plates form what I have been reading.
Was there a type9 gearbox fitted to an essex 3.0 engine ? I only know of the 4 speed box simular to 2000E ?
Picture test checking it's working
Hi,
I have an RX8 gearbox (5 speed) which i am trying to mate to an ST170 engine. Looks like 1.8 zetec flywheel with 1.8 escort clutch is the way to go, but will this be good enough for 250bhp (supercharged)?
Also I have the clutch release bearing and arm which came with the gearbox. Will this work with the escort clutch?
Freddy do u have any rx8 to pinto plates left? If so can u message me details please? Cheers
I have made a fitting guide up here if it helps

Got mine in and running now, but i have a bit of a problem with the release bearing, is screams and clatters when the clutch is depressed and it bites right at the top.
I have the Mazda release bearing (flat face like the Ford one) and a Pinto clutch on a blacktop Zetec, now should i be using the pinto bearing and if so how would you go about fitting it to the arm.
Or maybe by using the extender piece on the slave push rod, am i trying to depress the cover plate too much allowing the fingers to hit the side of the bearing ?
any help appreciated guys
cheers Paul
i will check tomorrow John, but i think its pretty tight mate. What bearing and clutch did you fit on the Escort ?
From what i can see there doesn't appear to be any slack at all, i think i should maybe take out the spacer on the arm and go from there,
ba*tard is buried behind the manifold though, not much room in an Anglia
Oh, first iv'e heard of that mate, the instruction sheet must have fallen out in the post.
Anyhow, i had a play around today and spoke to a couple of clutch people, i am going to have to take the box out again and see what witness marks are on the cover.
It looks like its throwing out far too far and i think the fingers on the cover are hitting on the springs in the friction plate, i managed to get your spacer off the rod and even so the bearing is still
touching the clutch at rest.
the instruction sheet.....lol the bearing is ment to touch the cover at rest too i am sure we have been through this before. it has worked for all the car manufacturers with thier spring loaded concentric slave cylinders. The only thing i can think of now is the mazda bearing isn't suited to your preasure plate or the person putting it together.
