I wonder if anyone has rough dimensions of an RX8 'box?
I figure I should make sure that it will fit in the tunnel before I buy one.
cheers.

After more digging I found this:
Length of bell housing to first split - 270
Length of bell housing to second split - 465
Length from bell housing frint to shifter - 740
Total length - 850
Width just after slave cylinder - approx 280-300
Width at mid section - 220
Height at mid section - 240, 100 above output shaft centreline
How many guys here are interested in Essex V6 plates?
Pipe up if you are as I would like to move forward with my project and I need to persuade freddy686868 to make up some plates
ive looked and there is a solution that the Americans use you can covert the electronic speedo to cable drive in old with a box they developed its alot of money though nearly 250 quid shipped from the states but comes with the ford type speedo drive. so just link the wires stright up to the box and it dose the rest
take a look here

At least we stole the show...
[QUOTE=Ianbavs;3063256]Rx8 6speed boxes don't have any type of speedo drive electronic or geared :-) speedo drive is from abs sensor
I've used gps speedo instead if that info is any use :-)

Just bought one off ebay. Cheap jobby from Hong kong but fingers crossed!

What's the most power /torque anyone's put through this box to date ? Thinking of one behind 1.6 ecoboost in mk2
I think 220 is what Freddy used rallying n racing seems to hold up fine :-) mines behind a 250hp cosy but not really been mad with it yet :-)

Same box is behind the s15 200sx, probably the highest power/torque in OEM form. Others are rx8, mk3 mx5, is200 and brz/gt86.

i'm putting 220bhp with a nice flat torque curve and that is around 200ft/lbs most of the time and 8,200rpm. i run 235 slicks and i am always flat out as it is a rally car and track car. For once the clutch has worn out beofore the gearbox broke (my old tran x type 9 was refreshed every event as something was always breaking.)

I have developed a conversion kit for the 6 speed gearbox that keeps the cable clutch in the original type 9/4 speed position when using the RX8 box with A pinto, zetec, I4 or crossflow engine. The kit will allow you to use the original pedal box and clutch cable. The kit contains and adaptor plate to bolt the engine to the gearbox, a new clutch fork, the clutch fork bracket and fitting instructions.
The complete kit is £150
If you would like any more info my number is 07960026726. I have these kits available ready to go.
Price is £165 not £150
I want to run an Essex in mine Lee - can those clutch forks still be used? If so, how much for one of your kits without a plate?
What sort of gearbox mount are you using? Any pics?

Kenworth- they can still be used but if you already have a plate you would need to modify it by welding a lug to the side of it with a hole in to hold the cable.
Lee, I am interested in your arm/bracket, I already have one of Freddy' adaptors and have tried to adapt it for cable which I think the cable is too long and flexes. Please can you let me know the depth of your flywheel and clutch (to the fingers) so I can see if it will work with my zetec se clutch. Also does it use the rx8 or the ford release bearing and do you have a template for the cut out?
Thanks

I don't have the set up on an engine to measure but the set up should work with a variety of different clutches and flywheels due to the adjustment. The rx8 bearing is used. Usually an 1.8 zetec flywheel is used along with pinto clutch. I don't have templates as my plate will be different. You would need to weld a lug in position on the other plate. This would be obvious when you bolt everything together.
Carnt wait to get Mine in
Thanks, will drop you a text in a couple of weeks when I get the Anglia back in the garage after being under a cover on the drive for the summer.

So much great info here, well done guys!!
Are you all using the standard RX8 slave cylinder? What size ( bore diameter ) master to go with it?
Anyone know what diameter the bell housing to engine plate bolts are? M10?
I'm picking up my newly acquired RX8 gearbox next weekend, will be trying to fit it to my MGB. They do a type 9 / Sierra 5 speed kit for the MGB, so if that fits I think I should be able to get the RX8 'box in there - fingers crossed!!
great read
forgot to ask are you using spigot adapter with Freddy686868's kit
No need i don't like the idea of running an input shaft extender. With the 4 cylinder ford engines my adapter plate is so thin (whilst being strong enough) you don't need an extender just bolt the box straight on. Others make thier adapters too think needing an input shaft extender they can also not fully engage the input shaft in the clutch friction plate, this is another reason why i wouldn't recomend using an input shaft extention. Don't get me wrong other engines like the xe/ and v6 motors do need the bellhousing machined though but that is just the way it happens.

I have been asked a few times on ebay to look into the mbg kit so i would be interested to sort one out if there is room for it to fit. When i used the standard rx8 slave cylinder i used either a .7 or .75 (sorry can't remember for sure. The bolts are m10 in my adapters too. Hope that helps.
I am also looking into using the standard clutch arm to work in the standard ford possition using a cable the same as the ford set up. More of that in the new year.
Didn't use an input shaft extender on my zetec engine. I've got one of the other guys plates which is 10mm.
The bore of the crank is quite deep but my bearing is only set in flush with the end of the crank and the input shaft is supported ok.
Anyone know if other cranks are like this too?
Hi Freddy, if i bolt my zetec to my rx8 box my input shaft is only going into the bearing halfway, are you saying yours goes in all the way and i am using one of your 6mm plates
Yes that is correct. As long as you haven't pushed the bearing too far into the crank it will fit in great. This is because the rx8 input shaft sticks 4mm futher out of the bellhousing than a type 9 so when you space the box out 6mm by using an adapter plate that makes a difference of only 2mm. This is why i choose to make the zetec plates 6mm it is the maximum size i would like to make it and the minimum thickness i would like to make it to keep plenty of strength in it. The reason why i use steel instead of ally is because ally wouldn't be strong enough. (The last part i felt the need to explain because people want them made of ally for lightness, even though they only weigh in at around 1.3/1.4kgs any way)
I hope that helps and if you still have questions feel free to email me some photos on rx8adaptersuk@hotmail.co.uk

Hi all. I am currently fitting a 3uz into my rx8 retaining the original box. I am looking for either a flywheel adaptor or custom fly to match the two up has anyone know of anyone that produces one at all?
Hi all.
Just looking for a bit of clarification on flywheels for this setup.
I have an ST170 engine and RX8 6 speed box.
I just started to start the "mating" process but hit a snag.
I was under the impression that you could fit a Zetec SE 1.8 flywheel straight on in place of the dual mass lump, and then run a 220mm mondeo clutch on that which I happen to have in the shed (and it has the 1" 23 spline plate)
However on offering it up, i see that the end of the crank on the st170 engine is a good 10mm shorter (closer to the block face) meaning I cant mount the SE flywheel on there.
So what flywheels do fit??
