did anyone ever get a proper finished CAD drawing done for rx8 to zetec
I took delivery of mine last week and have mocked it up to a spare 2.8 Cologne engine. I'm using a five speed RX8 box, which according to my research has the same bell housing, input shaft length etc. as the six speed.
It all fits together very nicely, but there is a bit of a caveat. The 2.8 flywheel is thinner than a 2.9 version, so the clutch plate doesn't engage fully with the splined input shaft. It's about 3/4 of the way over it when fully engaged. I'm sure this will be fine for the meagre 140 BHP I'm putting through it, but thought I'd point it out just incase anyone is planning to use the lighter (but thinner) 2.8 flywheel. My fix is to use a flywheel shim from the US model 1984 Ford Ranger. These are about a fiver each from the States and should give the splines a bit more bite. Another minor issue was the amount sweep I got from the clutch arm/thrust bearing to disengage the clutch plate. I solved this by spacing out the clutch arm fulcrum, see photos below.
All in all, I've got a very good feeling about this conversion. Can't wait to get it all fitted in the car.
This is how it looks fitted up. It has the clutch pedal and hydraulics plumbed up, just to make sure it all works properly before I start pulling my car apart.
Input shaft extension that Phil supplies. This will be welded in place.
This is the clutch arm fulcrum. I had to space it out a touch to get a full sweep of the thrust bearing to disengage the clutch. See the rusty looking thick washer.
Does anyone know whats happened to P9cyo?
I ordered a conversion plate last month was told a couple of weeks for delivery, sent him PM and txt his mobile but getting no answer.
Just want to know when I will receive it so I can start mocking up.
He maybe he is on holiday? or just really busy making the conversion plates?
Sorry mate dint reply to your txt ... Just seen this .. Hi demand and ran out of blanks but have plenty done now and fifty kits going out Monday so all will have them .
shall be at ford fair and many other shows this year with new kits gearbox mounts and also kit to modify your gearbox to use your type9 arm in same place as the type9 and cable .
Which will suit a lot of you out there .. P9cyo
I will recieve next week then?
Anyone got the ratios of the 5 speed rx8 box to compare with the 5 speed type 9? Seems the 6 speed boxes are fetching a premium now.

Ordered one plate yesterday through ebay ... because of this topic !
Cheers ugg10, that's spot on.
Hi P9cyo do you ship/post to the United States.. Very interested in getting one , it's goin on a mk2 escort 2.0 pinto, just the conversion plate kit with oil seal adapter for escort prop.. Many thanks
Hi hi there mate
we don't mind shipping world wide and already are .. Average shipping cost is about £50 gbp but can get proper price when needed ,
and the the kits are newer type one that's a lot better now , and we don't supply the oil seal as you need to use the rx8 end piece but if going onto and escort you can use the full rx8 carbon fibre prop by redrilling your large prop fange to suit and nut and bolt like the early mk1 escorts .. Hope this helps p9cyo ..
Hello p9syco I bought one of your kits a while ago but haven't got around to fitting it yet I assume it's an early one and I am concerned as to people and now yourself saying they don't fit properly what sort of problems am I likely to run into
email me or phone me its not a problem.. p9cyo@hotmail.co.uk tel 07815007836 paypal or bank transfer is fine, more pics just to update you.. website is still on its way... cheers... p9cyo
Ordered mine on the 9th of August via ebay for the Sigma engine I really cannot wait to fit it together. I will say I sent Phil a couple of messages via ebay and he replied pretty quick and always seemed happy to reply. I will post a picture of a plate fitted to a sigma block when I get mine as i have not seen a photo of that yet.
Does this gearbox need a two piece propshaft ?
Ok just wondered because rx8 diff is bolted up solid so doesn't move like an axle , did the same on a s2000 engine and box it broke the rear end off of gearbox
I have the gearbox but using the original hydraulic slave as the spitfire i am putting it in used an hydraulic slave as standard.
Not got the conversion plate as yet hoping it will be soon. Got a box from a friend who works in a breakers with everything on it including prop for £100 from a 41,000 mile car
Mine is not for the 1.7 its for a 1.6 Duratec/Sigma engine from a 2012 focus, only 2,200 miles on it for £325 complete.
just looking forward to my adapter plate turning up now hope it will be soon.

Has anyone ever used the 5 speed Mazda box? Is it really that much weaker than the 6 speed? And does it have the same dimensions etc.
Haven't seen the plate yet, out of stock P9cyo ?
I believe I paid 29 july ... A simple "sorry, out of order for the moment, wait till ... " would have been nice !
I know this doesn't help you guys at the moment but i will be producing an adaptor plate that will be ready in the next week or two. That is laser cut so perfect every time and it will have threads tapped into it making a nice neat bolt on aplication instead of messing with a load of nuts and washers all the time. Only for the standard type ford belhousing at the moment but i could easily get a readtop one drawn up too and maybe other if there is enough interest. Once they are all drawn up and in the laser cutters turn around time from ordering to your doorstep wouldn't be more than 5 workings days every time.

Id prefer a laser cut plate!! Seems like people are having a bit of trouble on delivery, what sort of cost do you think a red top one would come out at?
Done some checking on this. The 6 speed seems to be popular as it's got 6 gears but it's not the best. The internals are the same as the Mazda mx5 and Lexus is200. The gear change is said to be a bit poor compared to the 5 speed. The 5 speed is a Mazda derived box unlike the 6 speed. It was based no the older rx7 fd box. This is said to be much stronger than the rx8 boxes.
Someone check into the rx7 and 5 speed rx8 boxes and found the early gear set fits the later box. The 5 speed rx8 box is stronger than the 6 speed. If the rx7 gear kit is retro fitted it's said the 5 speed box is than a 500 bhp capable box.

As above. A number of people here in Aus using the RX7 FC/FD 5 speed as its stronger than the RX8 6-speed. Including of course the rotary crowd. However any NA escort isn't going to hurt a Rx8 6-speed. Turbo cars might be worth using the earlier stronger RX7 box though..
I'm still waiting I payed on the 5th august
Has any one had there's yet it's getting boring now
Looks like it's gonna be a nice piece of kit, can't wait to see the finished piece
Does anyone know if the Mazda 5 speed has the same input shaft as the 6 speed as this is what makes the conversion a lot easier because it shares the same spline size as the ford type 9
It is the RX8 gearbox that has the same spline as the Ford pattern and makes it ideal for this conversion, all of the Mazda/200SX/IS200/GT86 boxes are same as the RX8 internally and externally but have different input shaft splines as far as I know (Aisin AZ6 box). Mazda 5 speed is different as well AFAIK. Others please correct me if I a wrong.

The rx8 5 speed I would hopefully use but that's only if it's as simple to fit as the 6 speed, seems a lot more cost effective to go for a 5 speed and there more readily available
