Yeah they are the same flange and shaft wise, a friend of mine bought a 192 rx8 (the 5 speed version) pulled the engine out and fitted a 4l v8 32 valve lexus engine using a conversion plate similar to mine to bolt it up. the 5 speed to me doesn't look as robust to me though but depending on what you are bolting it too is should be ok.

Pretty sure the s2000 gearbox is different as it has a secondary reduction gear on the final drive. List of az6 here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List..._transmissions

I didn't know that about the s2000 my mistake but wiki isn't always 100% right either.

Bit more info on the differences between the s2000 and the az6 - looks like there may be some similarities but Honda have changed a lot if they started with an AZ6 as the template.

    http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/1056...-an-aisin-az6/

That said, for this thread the critical bit of fitting the RX8 to ford engines is that the input spline is the same as the standard ford spline so there is very little messing around with weird clutch combinations.

    rx8 gearbox?

So looks like the 5 speed Mazda should be as straight forward to fit as the 6 speed ?! Same dimensions and input shaft etc. Carbon prop as well! My only other idea is a Vauxhall omega box? Would bolt straight into the current XE engine but I don't know much about dimensions and prop setup etc.?

The body that holds the gears is smaller in diameter but the rest is the same. Gear stick possition, input shafts, flange, output flange and the prop shaft.

The ORIGINAL isn't always the best. People want quality and reliablity (going missing for a month doesn't help anyone) so slash your prices as much as you want cheap isn't always chearful. i am willing to sell my idea the same as you are but i am doing it so people can improve and keep thier classics running not to bulk out plates to make profits.

I had my plate today back from the laser cutters i am so excited!

The dowel holes line up great too so it will locate the input shaft perfectly in the spigot bearing.

A friend of mine will drill and tap it for me tomorrow now so i will have the box on by the weekend.

    So this happened today

You can see i nut and bolted where the dowels line up the plate. So i had to nip a bit out of the box.

And for the starter to clear

The input shaft is in a great place too!

i was looking for the same idea , some on the aussie and kiwi rotary sites have done this when fitting rx7 boxes into rx3 , but there is a design diff between 7 and 8 boxes , 8 boxes seem to be a development of a miata box a differant series to the 7 fd boxes , i m still trying to find a conclusive answer to this .

Well im going to france this weekend for 2 weeks but when i get back if nobody can help i am going to split the box and do some cutting and sort some tig welding to see. I could do with it as far forward as I can get for the spitfire due to how far back i am putting the engine in.

It may be possible to leave some of the internal metal of the plate to do this as I assume this will sit behind the flywheel

    Re: rx8 gearbox?

Mine took a month to come and to be honest it's not the best of fits.
Bolted up to engine ok but quite sloppy on gearbox bolts.
I ended up taking engine out , standing it on its end dropping box on top to get a feel for the input shaft being central.
I dowelled my plate to the gearbox so when it goes back in I know the shaft will not be under any tension.
The starter was a different matter. The holes are so far out it jams the starter against the flywheel.
I don't know about other engines but if your using a 2.0L zetec you don't need the shaft extender for the spigot bearing that p9syco supplies. The counterbore in the crank is about 30mm deep and the bearing is only 20mm so if you only tap the bearing in flush with the end of the crank the input shaft goes in all the way.
I only had to put a 2mm washer under the clutch fork fulcrum to get correct release bearing clearance so didn't use his slave cylinder relocation plate but I am using a retro Ford lightened flywheel and clutch so I don't know if that makes any difference or not!
Now I'm ok with having to fettle a bit to get things correct but if your looking for a simple bolt up and forget job this is not it.
A real shame as Phil's done all the leg work finding a box that fits and has fallen at the final hurdle with the fit of the plate.
It needs to be dowelled to both engine and box to be sure of positive location.
I think Freddy,s version should be better as he's having all his holes done by machine.
    Good luck.

It's ideal mounta up great. I have used captive nuts in the strengthing mount and bolted everything to there. You can see here step by step.

Well it done 80 minutes on the track today ans 3 hours on the motorway and she is awesome. I was shifting down early today and the box just goes in to gear and the back end is tramping like hell and the box took it all. The diff on the other hand the diff is whining like a mother fucker.

    Re: rx8 gearbox?

Is that first gear useless and is second too long to pull away in?
What sort of power, diff ratio and wheel/tyre combination do you have?

1st isn't too bad on a 3.75 diff with 205/60/13" tyres i have 220 bhp and 205lbs/ft 2nd gear is a little long really but i can spin the tyres off the line and they start to grip by the time i come on cam. But it is still good if i pull of in second without bogging down.
