blocks nothing special to look at over than its very clean, its been both acid dipped and through my hot wash machine, its also had a rebore and been refaced.

the crank needed the mains regrinding, the ends just a polish, end shot clearly shows the flywheel dowels, i dont tend to dowel them for pure road use, but this engine is going to do a few hills and sprints so will probably see the clutch sidestepped a good few times

i also had the crank balanced

nothing to see here other than very clean caps

prior to acid dip i removed the aux shaft bearing as the acid dip eats the bearing material

a couple of pen marks make it easy to line up the oil ways in the block and bearing, the fitting tool is just an old aux shaft modified

and its easily tapped into place

    Re: blue Rs

going a bit old school with this engine, the rods are yb cosworth, they have been checked for alignment and resized,

its been a while since i had the scales out, all the recent engines i have done either used totally standard rods or steel rods no balancing required in either case, these i balanced, they werent bad, but werent the best either i have had sets of yb rods so close weight wise i didnt have t touch them

no surprise but when i did a dummy piston fit the pistons stuck out the bore just over 0.050" which is about what you would expect as yb rods are round 0.060" longer than pinto, and i had refaced the block, what i was pleased about is the protrusion on all the pistons was very similar. i dont usually skim blocks or even heads for that matter as although you can on my milling machine its a bit of a pain to do and easy end up with it pissed and one end of the block taller/thicker than the other.

i normally machine pistons in the lathe, but today i did it in the Bridgeport on a jig i made for holding pistons to do valve cutouts, its a bit of a faff to get it set up to do the first piston, but once set up the other 3 are nice and quick
