Vernier Pulley\'s...
Ok techies, my 92' sapphire is running 15 psi of boost, a k&n panel filter and a 3 inch mongoose exhaust. The car is running fine, but what i would like to know is would i get much gain from fitting a set of vernier pulley's at this state of tune ?? I guess a slightly smoother pickup would be in order and maybe a 2-3 bhp increase in power..
Any info appreciated..

Re: Vernier Pulley\'s...
My Orion turned over 10 percent of its power by just adjusting its vernier, and that was on a 150HP motor.
However it does depend how well your cams are dialed in on your standard pulleys, Standard cams seem to respond very well if timed up at around 110 degrees to 115 degrees.

Re: Vernier Pulley\'s...
Cheers Clint, i didn't realise there was any adjustment to be had from the standard cam timing setup. Can i ask you : 1, How do i check what degree's my cam's are currently set at, and 2: ( trying not to sound thick..) if adjustment was needed how would you do it with standard pulley's..
Thanks again, Andy..

Re: Vernier Pulley\'s...
Hi andy you will need some specialist tools and some knowledge of whats going on, my advice if you are not VERY competant at diy mechanics is to get someone to check it for you. You can onlt adjust a couple of degrees on the standard pulleys by using offset woodruf keys, after that I would buy a pair of quaife pulleys. If you are competant Ill do a how to when I time up one of the current engines I am building.

Re: Vernier Pulley\'s...
Thanks Clint, now youv'e mentioned the off-set woodrof key i see how you do it. I changed the cam belt & tappet's last year & reset everything using the standard timing mark's. I guess i will need more than a dial-gauge and a degree disc for the cam pulley's !!
Cheers, Andy...
