Sounds like a good idea. How many i4's have you set up like this and what sort of increases have you seen? I'm guessing they are all top end increases.

The shortest they will go is 40mm too as the locking collar hits the trumpet flare. Otherwise i would have liked to have tried them shorter. I think if i had room for a 90mm trumpet it would have gotten better but it was at the stage were it had to get worse before better and would couldn't push through the worst of it. Just a very vaigue thought too maybe the higher capacity 4 pots like a shorter trumpet?
arhh in that case i can sell you some shorter bodies

I'm impressed now. Still not finished but much better!
    The first ever power run

The last run to date but the rollers tripped out at 6700rpm :-/

Haha brilliant. Nah i think i will angle the inlet next and map the ignition and leave it there. Just to see what works really. I really want to swing the inlet cam too but that would mess up the current mapping too much so i won't be doing that.

None on a I4 but did it on my old Zetec and made similar set ups for other people.

Gained 15bhp more on my old Zetec.

I prefer webers but only because I have no experience with fuelling mapping, still reckon cam timing should be played with a bit.

i ran my s14 double injected, but that was only because i carried over the set up from my previous engine, although a lot of the really quick s14s are double injected
talking to dave some engines work better double injected others not. i know when we tried it on my 2.0 2002 engine, it gained 12bhp @5000rpm but the peak power was the same

It is also still on hydraulic lifters. It has no means the meanest i4 engine ever built but it is my mean i4 engine. Designed, built and tunned but one amature although my friend helped greatly with the mapping. So the fact that it made the same power as a 10k jre 2l xe (just much more torque accross the range) on the same rollers means the engine is good enough for a first build/potch. I have saved thousands, had fun. An engine i csn put my name to and learnt a load too.

    Rant over i guess haha.

Very nice maybe a little over the top for my build. I doubt i will ever go down the twin injector route although it does intrest me. What sort of rpm would the second set of injectors kick in?

Just looking at when we got the engine running on the base map to where we are now. No wonder it feels like a different engine.

The much better but nowhere near final map.

At what rpm did you run the second set of injectors and did you basically half the cycle duty of the injectors on the ecu when they came in? Also were the second set of injectors a lot smaller than the originals in cc?

Re: 2341cc 12/1 16v cammed 48mm jenveys, guess the power

on both setups we have brought the second injectors in at around 3000rpm, but only near full throttle, or it will just bog when the outers come on. ive done it with two sets of same size and with one set bigger, if you use different size injectors then put the bigger ones as outers, but yes when the outers switch in you basically half the fuel to the inners.

i dont know about any others but the emerald can correctly vary the injector duration to suit differing size inner and outer injectors as long as you tell it the different flow rates

the ecu can work in one of two ways, either switching the outers on when it runs out of duty cycle on the inners, or if you are double injecting to gain a better fuel spread rather then because one set are too small, it can be set to "force" a change over, ie turn the outers on at a set point rather than just when the inners are flat out

I forgot your still on hydraulic tappets still..

Swap to solids and shims.. Look for Red top XE solid insert conversion and shims, they will fit your tappets
