i ran my s14 double injected, but that was only because i carried over the set up from my previous engine, although a lot of the really quick s14s are double injected
talking to dave some engines work better double injected others not. i know when we tried it on my 2.0 2002 engine, it gained 12bhp @5000rpm but the peak power was the same

on both setups we have brought the second injectors in at around 3000rpm, but only near full throttle, or it will just bog when the outers come on. ive done it with two sets of same size and with one set bigger, if you use different size injectors then put the bigger ones as outers, but yes when the outers switch in you basically half the fuel to the inners.
i dont know about any others but the emerald can correctly vary the injector duration to suit differing size inner and outer injectors as long as you tell it the different flow rates
the ecu can work in one of two ways, either switching the outers on when it runs out of duty cycle on the inners, or if you are double injecting to gain a better fuel spread rather then because one set are too small, it can be set to "force" a change over, ie turn the outers on at a set point rather than just when the inners are flat out

I forgot your still on hydraulic tappets still..
Swap to solids and shims.. Look for Red top XE solid insert conversion and shims, they will fit your tappets
