It was midnight blue not black mate. Thats gone now and i bought a Mexico replica. It needed a front floor pan which turned into a pan, inner and outer sill and splash shield! Oh and a passenger side door skin which is why its not finished yet. keep the updates coming on yours.
Looking good guys
Ok next instalment is the 3 piece bulkhead the two side plates went in easy flat and flush the centre needed bending slightly...
Watch your eyes tacking the centre in!!
All tacked in
Welding in proper and folding tunnel lip over to weld
All done for the day
Finish off next time.
Next up refit rear axle on old springs to mark out for turrets!!!
Is that Fosters or Carling you are drinking down Town Alan?
Carling Gary , be the same tonight I think, we've been trying to get a set of round turrets in today been a bit awkward but it's not far off, pics tomorrow I should think?. Does an internal turret height of 14" 3/4 from the bottom of chassis rail sound ok?.
Very nice! Keep up the good work!
What is the reason for the new bulkhead? Mainly stiffening?
Thanks !!. We were swapping from xflow to pinto so may as well of done it , it stops the std one kinking with rough use I think.
Yes your Measurement there sounds about right from the top of the turret to the bottom of the chassis, mine are approx 15 inches, they are square turrets which I made 2 inches taller to stop the shockers bottoming.
Which one do you knock your Pot in, the Sheaf or Manners?
working mens sheaf or queens, been trying to fit an unknown diff tunnel without success . gonna have to get one from race and try that I just hope the hole we cut aint to big now!!!.
Thinking of going like this but unarched ?? What do you think?
Up dates when I get my phone back later
Been out to RACE at Stoke again , needless to say way over budget again the place is a gold mine.
Class, this is going to be a real nice spec car in no time.
I would arch it in time like all the best ones
Screaming 1300 mexico rep
Thanks joe, I'd love to arch it but id never get it out the drive I only have an inch to spare as it is.
Get it arched Alan and then get the Jack Hammer out on the wall to the Drive. A nice sensible project you are doing, it`s a credit to all of you.
Ok got my photos off my phone turrets and diff tunnel time
y
Fitted turrets to the squires twins measurements, it became quite a pain trying to keep all height length and width measurements bang on working from the centre line ect
In the end we got 14 3/4 inches internal turret height to the chassis rails ?some have higher some less, I can't see me needing to go lower than -1 1/2 on the rear for rough tar , I'm going to start at minus 1" for now.
We also didn't lip the wheel tubs ? Just cut it and fully welded it we will fold the turrets over underneath and stitch them later we need a die grinder to get to a few tight bits to Finnish off.
Next up the diff tunnel fu*k up !!
Ok hear goes I was offered an unused large diff tunnel for a tenner and jumped at it like you do!!, I can't find pics of it yet but we measured and cut out within it to notice too late the front was way to wide and high and we would have to flair the front of the original to meet it massively so we attempted to fit it edge to edge and made things worse !! . So I swore a bit stamped on it and shut the garage door.
A week later after not even wanting to look at the
Hole in the floor I think right ill pop over to RACE and get a new large tunnel got back and offered it up
Garage door slammed shut again!!
A day later son says don't worry dad I'll use bits of the shite tunnel and fill it in
I cut the centre of the brace a bit big but son will sort that later
Thanks to son I can look at it now without wanting to cry lol
Motto of the story is as usual BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE thanks to Phil, Mick and Chris at race for a proper fitting tunnel and great help and advice, the RACE tunnel only cost £17 and would of fitted mint 1st time . Lesson learnt .
Next up the one I'm really frightened of
Son seems to have worked the jigsaw out now to fit the tube and fully weld
That's about it for now I just hope we can fit it full assembled?.
The finished tunnel actually looks worse in photos, its not that bad... honestly lol!. Next time I build up a panhard rod I'll weld the tube In before hand.
I've just had a nasty thought that we should of fitted the tube to the car and built the panard tower around it ???
I did mine the same way as you - it's a lot easier to build as much as possible on the bench
GavinR
Thanks Gavin that's great news.
Should be a lot of photos uploaded soon when he (redhf) can be bothered.
Any news on the Engine Build yet?
Still on with this car all pics are on 3 devices and they all upload via a different tool it's tricky getting them all in order but I'm on it . Engine is the same as last time Gary all ready to put the top end together have got new pair of dcoe To go on it .
Yesterday's work
Just seen this great project will be keeping my eye on this
When I grow up I will have a MK1 Escort
I must be all growed up now then and paying for it!
Looking Looking good lads, keep it up. Be done in no time
Ok welcome back I'll try and update in some sort of order as it's all a bit muddled
The panard tower nightmare
We some how ended up with the wrong tower a short drivers side tower that when chassis rails were drilled on the passenger side meant the holes and fit were in the wrong place and wrong angle comming back up into the boot floor !! Although the strengthening plate was fine and correct it was welded in and plug welded for max strenth
