CVH Tappets...
What is it with these cvh engines wearing no4's tappet??
Anyway after a messy weekend I have now found eight not too badly worn tappets and a cam for a 1.4 cvh engine out of an escort... problem is can you get the oil out from the tappets?? as the valves arent shutting fully... or should I jist slacken the bolts off on the rockers... get it running and then adjust the bolts later?? --- Failing that wheres cheap for tappets..
Cheers

Re: CVH Tappets...
compress the tapets in a vice...the oil will come out through the hole in th e side

Re: CVH Tappets...
B careful if youre trying to squash your tappets to release the oil, Its so easy to f**k the one way valve. If you are going to replace the tappets, its advisable to replace the cam.If you dont ,the cam will wear them out in no time.Same as if you replace the cam, replace the hyd tappets. If the tappets are holding the oil in, try screaming the engine and switching off @ high revs.Try this a few times.Has worked for me a few times m8...

Re: CVH Tappets...
I have stripped and rebuilt the engine for a friend... can switch off at high revs as head is on the bench.... I have replaced the cam as it looked like a round tube... have also got tappets out of same engine.. 40,000 miles... but after re-seating valves and fitting new stem seals.. the valves arent shutting as the tappets are full of oil... should I just stip the tappets and clean them out and then put them back together?? other tappet was so worn it had a hole in the bottom!!
They are not adjustable.. but I can just undo the bolt holding the rocker arm till the valve closes... then turn the engine over and gradually tighten these till its working?

Re: CVH Tappets...
You say you have got a 1400 cam and lifters is it a 1400 head as the 1400 had different valves to the 1300 and 1600 I seem to remember?
