    3 Door Valuation....

    Ladies & Gentlemen,
Could you estimate the value of a 3 door Cossie as follows:
    55k, 3 owners, full history.
    All MOT's
    Full Ford Service History
    Standard Spec (s/s exhaust apart)
    HPI clear
    AA inspected
    Original Bill of Sale.
Original D40 tyres (why do these matter?)
    Any thoughts?

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

I would have thought the best idea would be to contact the RSOC 3 door registrar and book a valuation at an RS event. They are v cheap considering and the valuation is respected as far as I know.

    Sounds nice though...
    I love em'

Duplex - not really possible, as I'll be exporting (to Ireland)immediately. I had a look at turbocharger.co.uk, and 4car who have some interesting views.
Wolfie - £50 would be handy for petrol thank you

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

The valuation can be done through photos if you are to far from the registrar, but they can only give up to a certain amount anything above £x(whatever it is for a cossie, I'm not sure)will have to be a visual valuation. It's 4 grand through photos for a series 2.
I think the valuation's are a tad "rich" but they give you a good idea if your planning to sell.

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

I think you will find that Dermot is looking at buying this car (unless he has done so in the last week)..

How much is it up for mate?? As an Idea I have seen them to go from as little as £3000-4000 for a "useable" one which is in need of tlc upwards to £12000 for a very low mileage ones in original condition.

I dont know but I would have thought that the one above would be around the £8000-9000 mark??? Any one else got any ideas on this as I am only guessing here??

As for the original tyres they cannot be brought anymore!! So concourse/originality type people like them.. Depends on what nick they are in as to their value. I should imagine that the seller has brought them to put back on the vehicle when he/she sells it to up the value and make it sound original?? Dont know tho!

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

    Spot on Kieron!
Haven't purchased as yet, but am getting it top to toe inspected tomorrow, and then we'll see.
Original tyres mean very little to me, as they are 15 years old and must be shagged irrespective of how good they look.
I'd sell them probably to a concours type (toothbrush merchant)
Either way if I go through with this, I'll be selling one of these cars....
Turbocharger.co.uk and 4car are suggesting a smoker is worth 6k and a real pearler at least double that.
    Is this realistic?
3 doors do make a premium over saph's, as good untouched examples are rarer.
Mr. 2quick4u (Bruntingthorpe) has a lot to answer for!!!!!!!

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

Kieron has written everything that I was going to say.
However, there is one bit I would comment on, I would be amazed if anyone got anything over £10k for one as you are then into RS500 territory. I will explain my reasons later (off out now!)

Turbocharger says £7.5k average, £9k good, and £10k excellent.

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

Didn't realise you were buying it .
It's difficult to put a price on it without seeing it,I would estimate about 7-8k??
In the last RN there was a 42000 mile one for £7000 but then after it there was a78000 mile on for 8 grand, both very similar to the one you described.

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

    Dermot,

They did make the tyres for some time after mate its just that you can't purchase them now!! If Mark comes on here later he may explain more as he has 5 original wheels with D40's on..

Sapphy is right in saying that over 10k is getting into RS500 teritory but thats where they start off!! A nice one of them is more likely to be 15k+.. However I have seen 3drs for over 10k.

Good luck tomorrow and let us all know how it goes!

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

A 10k 3-door would have to be a shrink wrapped example - and even then it would be a meseum piece as otherwise gaskets, seals, belts, bearings etc... would need replacing.

I'd expect to pay around 8k for this example, if it as nice as it sounds.

Just remember, don't get excited!!! You need to be subjective - there are hundreds of them out there

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

    I would say 7 to 8 matey.

Also them D40's would be handy to keep in your garage to sell later when they get worth even more!! They are crap on the car by the way. Get some new ones either way.

Welcome to the club!! Whats going to happen to the Rs2 then??

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

Dermot as i,m sure you have guessed there is no definate price for one of these, its all down to what the seller and/or yourself think its worth, inspection is a good idea if your not familiar with them, but on a 15 year old car its only part of it, History is just as important and unless you are buying from the first owner how do you know how its been used, i would say that any 3 door worth buying would have low mileage, and or a proper rebuild by now, and really you need someone experienced to look at it first. Finally i heard insurance is really expensive over there, is it worth it.

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

Sapphy - I won't get excited I promise I know what you mean though. Stay calm and uninvolved, and look at the entire thing as a business decision.
Big Dave - If this works out I'll be selling something, not sure which yet. Either car is worth a lot of Euro over here
Bladerunner - Insurance is real crap, but I'm a Broker, and can get it done reasonably.
I'll know yes or no before lunchtime, and will keep you informed.
Thanks for your input floks, appreciated.

Blimey Dermot, you don't waste any time in sorting out a new car do you , I hope you get a nice one, but bear in mind that Marks' car has a 330HP conversion and as such is half as powerful again as a standard car, so don't be disappointed in the performance of whatever you buy compared to his.

Oh, and by the way , if you are selling the RS2 , let me know how much it is, as I might be tempted myself

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

    No timewasting here Rob
Bad news on the car itself though. The RAC have told me enough verbally to dampen my ardour. It's basically sound, but needs some work.
I'm dissapointed, and £170 odd poorer, but better that than pay too much for a car that did not meet expectations
I understand the 204 vs. 330bhp difference, but even 204 offers near supercar road performance. As I said earlier Mark has a lot to answer for
The Mk2 is valued much higher over here due partly to rarity, and also to the fact that it's on an Irish plate which cost IR£750 in import duty at the time
I had even arranged the insurance for the Cosworth

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

A few things wrong - basically not really as described.
I think the seller got a bit of a shock as well
The good stuff is engine, transmission, interior, paint finish.
The not so good included some rust taking hold underneath, seized brakes, accident damage - repaired but a lot of filler here and there. Also needs tyres, window seals that kind of thing.
It's just when I looked at what is involved to put it into what I'd describe as A1, I just said no.
I'm a little poorer c.£170 odd for the inspection and HPI and report.
This may have put me off Cosworth's for good

    Re: 3 Door Valuation....

It always amazes me the difference that you can find in so called immaculate cars, and how some cars wear their age a lot better others of the same year, I used to love m.k. 2 mexico,s and R.S.2000,s and i had lots of them up to about 10 years ago, but it got so hard to find a good solid one , that i felt i could drive the way they are meant to be driven. i suppose there are still good ones out there, but repaired strut tops and chassis rails dont inspire me with confidence, but perhaps i worry too much ?.
