Re: Thinking of getting a scoobie

I can be help with this. I'm 1 of 2 techs at the #1 ranked Subaru service department in the U.S.!

Watch for bad timing tensioner's. Noisy gearbox. Brake shudder. Oil leaking out of the center timing cover can be crank seal or screws backing out of the oil pump. Over all they have very few problems. Just check em' out like ya would do anything else. I have seen many 300,000 to 450,000
Subaru's that have never been torn down. What tends ta kill'em is some meat head running them with out water.

As far as the sevice's go, it depends on how good you R.
If your just a avg. shade tree gear-head you'll be better off taken it to a service center. Plugs can be a bit of a bitch. Try to find a lift and come up from the bottom. No need to take half the engine compartment apart to service em'! You'll just have ta fuk with em' every 60,000 anyway so not big deal. Just be very glad its not got the H-6 N it cuz that engine is a complete mother fucker!

Also watch out on the 2002 turbo wagons for a broken weld in the a arm area. it will make a popp'n sound while making turns.

Any other specific ?'s just ask.

You were planning on keep'n your Cossie right?

Re: Thinking of getting a scoobie

My Poor old Scoob only did 1/4 mile S/Start (in the wet) 14.1 sec and 98mph more to do with driver than the car.

Subaru's aint made for straight lines, fuel economy or Clutch reliabilty.

Engines can and do last 200K+ miles not bad for a high powered 2.0 Ltr Engine.
