    Thanks fella......!

Finally mounted the tires & installed the MOs.
The picture doesn't even begin to show how wide they look on the car. They rub slightly on the back so a bit of work is needed. .

Dropped the wife off at work in the quiet car, went home and got the loud car and went for a good rip through some banked twisties. Will probably do it again next week and will be sure to video it.
Stopped and got some pics of the amazing view !!

Catching her breath.. oil got up to 230F. Revs' ll do that !

Every race engines worst nightmare. TRAFFIC

    Wasn't sure I'd make it...

had plenty when I started idling in traffic, it runs out fast in this girl

    Finally !

Door panel looked cool under the station lights

    Finally, back home.

    Thanks !!

here's the road. As you can see, it's a great spot. On any Saturday morning you are as likely so see a bicycle as you are a McLaren P1 ! I hit the brutal traffic because I left really late. I left the house at 330 when I should have been on the road at 10.

Picked this baby up as a spare today. For now it'll just stay in the drawer but I hope to make a garage engine display from worn Atlantic parts.

A friend sent me these taken by someone at the last cars n coffee meet

Re: AE86 Corolla Chassis - Formula Engine - Feels like it's taking forever...!

Oil change time. Bought a vacuum drain to empty the tank. Made it such that changing the oil takes about 4 minutes including changing the filter & draining the sump. Just attach compressed air & let her at it ! Best $80 I've spent !!

Oil tank out to find the source of the leak that's been driving me ** crazy **

Back on the road. Now it's the f****n starter !
Staying tonight to fit a new one

Cam cover off for a leak repair and repaint.

Off with the old ( left ) on with the new ( right )

1.9L conversion under way on a new block. Should see somewhere around 280bhp & 200lbs.
The plan is to be driving her in September. Have a track day this month with the current engine. Can't wait to see how she does.

    New cover on

Got the wheels back today. Said as she's on the lift I may as well have them done

Chees lads ! Had an unbelievable time...
What a great day. She ran flawlessly !!

Air temp 113f.............45c - fuck me it was hot.
Oil temp 270f.............132c - hotter than I would like. Want to see a max of 245
Coolant temp 205f.....96c - want a max of 195 here

Seems like it may be time to install an oil cooler and a better radiator.

Will upload a video on Monday

Ignore the rattling shifter. This was my 2nd session of the day, finally getting used to the car. It also shows a straight line comparison between me & a 2014 Audi S4.

Changed the oil since it was pretty dark after Thunderhill. Also topped up the tank with some of the good stuff !

It's been a long time since I updated this but one thing the track day taught me was the brakes need upgrading.

Did 295mm on the front & 290mm on the rear.

Re: AE86 Corolla Chassis - Formula Engine - Feels like it's taking forever...!

After doing the brakes I got a call from Hasselgren, they're ready to start the new engine.

Got up this morning and had to decide between going for one last drive and pulling the engine. Chose the latter...

    Drained the oil

    Started taking things apart

And out she came, surprisingly uneventful

Was very happy to see no signs of leaks etc...

Got this rack to store everything neatly along with associated hardware

And finally, she sits without her heart

Billy, what am I missing? I read back but can't see. Why are you getting a new engine? The one you have is spectacular!

    Thanks Raymond,
The reason for the engine change is to install the new crank, rods & pistons. It's a stroker kit Hasselgren has put together to bring it from 1600cc to 1900cc.

    Cheers Shaun,
The extra power will be nice & they think it's going to have a very fat torque curve compared to the 1600. Can't wait to see the final numbers !

Engine almost done, oil cooler mounted. The last Thunderhill day saw oil temps spike at 280F. This should help a lot.

Had to make a new mount for the wheel speed sensor since I changed caliper brackets. Nothing a drill, tap & grub screw couldn't solve.

Re: AE86 Corolla Chassis - Formula Engine - Feels like it's taking forever...!

Got a call from Hasselgren saying the engine will be ready this week so I set to work changing some things that have always bothered me.
I started moving the fuel pressure regulator to the fire wall. Got rid of all of the steel braided hoses and changed to nylon braided.

Moved the oil filter housing and temp sensor below the right headlight. This will make changing the filter less messy and even easier.

It's the clutter behind the headlight in this pic that I wanted to move.

Also gave some consideration to painting the calipers. Thoughts ?

Hopefully this bay will be vacant for only 1-2 more weeks

Wow, that is some seriously nice parts going back in the engine. This car never fails to impress me.
Brakes, you realise mice could live in your discs during winter?
And if you are going to paint the calipers, paint them the same gold as the cam cover to keep the theme

The throw of the crank was big enough to cause the rod bolts to touch the inside of the pan so the pan has been internally modified. After almost a week of that it's back on track. Head and accessories going on over the weekend and hopefully dyno next week.

Met Christian Von Koenigsegg this morning. Had him sign my center console !!

Re: AE86 Corolla Chassis - Formula Engine - Feels like it's taking forever...!

Short block officially finished ! Pan on as well. The head gets machined tonight & should be in long block status by tomorrow evening. The needed to make a relief in the windage tray, machine the pan & make a spacer to get enough clearance for the crank throw !
