A Few pics of Carl's MK1 as work progresses

First project in the new workshop is Carl's MK1 Escort.
Going to be fitting short square turrets to this, along with a panhard rod, coilovers at the front anti-dive, TC/RS roll bar, big brakes, roll cage, different seats, bias pedal box, and whatever else he wants us to do while it in the workshop

First pics are as we started on the car, you can see his freshly built Bilstein coilovers in the boot here, and boxes full of goodies on the passenger seats.

Cool, i love seeing this kind of stuff!

Just a quick question, do you make the rear turrets up yourself or are they available off the shelf? And how much would you charge to install them? I have a m8 with a Mk1 that need this doing, as well as having the 4 link mountings welded in the shell

Re: A Few pics of Carl\'s MK1 as work progresses

I am also retaing the back seat, it will need modifying round the turrets, but is being recovered in half leather anyway. Wes the turrets are all available from Race/Rally design etc cheap as chips as well. There are different hegihts available depending on what application. I have got the medimum as i am retaing leaf springs. The tall type are for coil overs if you are five linking. Postioning of the turrets is important. Thats why Mark is doing it, get it wrong it will handle shite. The shocks i am using will be late mkII leda adjustables.

Top work and looking good, can`t wait to drive it again. Gonna do the head gasket and use the 2.0 pinto init for now. Couple of months (no more)will see a new engine spec undecided as yet. But i do have 45mm throttle bodies and full managment to fit. However i may change my mind and go erm silly depends how much dosh i can find.

Re: A Few pics of Carl\'s MK1 as work progresses

    Bustem,

Late Mk1 shox will do with the same turrets I am using on Carl's car (short square) they won't fit with GP4 turrets though.

For alignment basically they have to have the centre hole directly above the axle so the shox work upright, I have some measurements for MK1 and 2 Escorts as to where this is, but they need to be double checked on the car as the production tolerances are huge.

If you are fitting some and need advice just ask and I will try and help.

Wes I will PM you prices etc.

    Looks very nice..
Question not really concerning the work but.. those front seats, are they Mk2 Ghia ones? I had them in my old Mk2 and really liked them (apart from not being able to tilt them) but was never sure where they came from.

    Cheers, Greg.

sure are, going to be replaced with a set of 2.8i recaros, had the bolsters fixed, leather sections sorted then dyed black. Will be getting the back seat retrimmed using the old capri covers so they match.

Cheers mate, yep trackdays will deffo be on the list, Mark is doing a fooking brill job. No twin webbers on the list, as i have 45mm throttle bodies, ecu and coil pack instead! Want to get the car all done, mot`d and in use then will be doing all the engine. Its still quite quick with the standard engine.

just a quick question, how much difference does upright shocks make to a road car? i doubt i will do many track days (cant afford to risk my only car not getting me to work on mondays!!) i do go to work down the back lanes tho.
