I have done my research now and have finally sussed it!!

I have a breather from the cam cover (obvious) and also the standard position under the inlet area that was already there (Cheers NIck!). There is also a bung screwed into the crankcase on the exhaust side toward the rear of the engine. If this bung is removed it gives acess into the case and when a screw in adaptor is made up you can also breath from this piont.

So folks anyone know what screw thread is on this bung? Also what depth of thread is needed? Also how much space is there for an tube adaptor to be fitted? I suppose it would be handy to fit a 90 degree fitting also?? Any chance of a picture of the area??

I will make up my own screw in adaptor this week with Swagelock fittings and stainless tubing. I will also make up a second one for the first person to find this info out for me??

(I will probably make a few for my mates anyway if truth be known..! But you get the idea!!)

I have a brass insert there for my breather return, I took it off recently to change blocks, I'm off home now so I'll see if I can measure it tonight.

Duplex, do you have a seperate oil return point as well as an exhaust side brether point? I dont suppose you have a picture of that side of the block do you??

Or anyone for that matter, my head is nippin!!

No, it's used as an oil return just now, but the idea is to put in a return on the side of the sump so it will be a breather point in the end. I had a look last night for the plug but it didn't make it's location known to me I'll have another look tonight

There are 2 schools of thought for breather systems on a cossie, the one i choose is to breath from both sides of the crank and leave the cam cover alone! I think you have a cossie sump BD as from what your describing your oil return goes into where the turbo oil return would normally go (exhaust side of engine, near the front, quite large?)

nope, oil is returned via the standard 4x4 oil return pipe in the sump on the inlet side of the engine

Wes, looks like you are my shining light!! Remember a few weeks back you were trying to explain breathers to me!! I am still trying to get it sussed fully!

Yes its for my new Mk2 N/A Cossie. And yes the oil return I am using just now is quite a large port and so is most likely the bit you mention.
Also with the engine being a 2WD it wont have the oil return on the sump will it??

So WES, my question is where are you breathing from on the exhaust side of the engine?? Are you using the bung I mentioned??

Here are the words of GGR..."The three port separator allows ventilation from both sides of the crankcase. The inlet side of the engine breathes from the original position, below the inlet manifold (with an aluminium adaptor in place of the flame trap). On the exhaust side of the engine, at the rear of the cylinder block, there is a hexagonal headed bung. This blanks off a threaded passage through into the crankcase, (on most 4X4 engines, the knock sensor wiring is secured to the top of this). Remove this bung, and fit in its place the threaded adaptor supplied with our kit."

As a further point I reckon I will be getting one of Dingy's big wing sumps if it will fit. I will then have a proper oil return port cos it has em fitted I think?

Another question is this...Is the turbo oil return a sufficient place for me to draing back to sump??

On 2wd engines that bung is removed and used as the oil return.

BD, yep, that "bung" is the other crankcase breather point on my engine. The reason i don't like using that point as an oil return as if there is oil returning down it when the crankase needs to breath it blows it back up the pipe and eventually you'll get oil every where! The oil should really be returned BELOW the level of the oil so it doesn't get blown back out, on a 4x4 this is done as standard.

Wes, I guess you are a follower of GGR then? That is exactly what they say on their FAQ section. Is it one of their set ups you are using then? What adaptor are you using to attach a breather to the bung hole then (Oooo Err Mrs! )

Clint, I am with Wes on the oil return thingie, especially as I dont have a turbo to return oil from. The return pipe is well large and apperars to be the best option in my set up.

So folks, who can tell me what thread that bung is? Also how deep is the thread into the crank case??

Clint, is this bung the one that you have adaptors for? I am, going to need one in the next 7 days to do the full breather monty to my engine on my return home??

BD, i use a Bailey oil seperator, the GGR stuff is over priced and i've heard from several people they aren't very good! Also BD the turbo return point is still above the oil level so you may get oil blowing up this! But as your getting a big winged sump you'll be able to get the oil return put somewhere sensible

GGR supplied the adapter that goes in the crank breather (bung location). I don't know what thread it is though, but i use a -10 adapter to go onto the one they supplied. The hose for this should be 5/8" (-10) diameter, and the hose for the otherside should be 3/4" (-12) diameter.

I have a GGR 3-port breather and I must say it works very, very well. I agree that it's not cheap at all but it WORKS perfect.
I don't think anyone else makes anything that's better.

Cheers for the reply mate, I have heard different stories about them now. I just cant see why they cost four times as much as others??

I am having one made specially for my engine now so will keep you all posted when its done!!
