    Cheers for replys
Yeah i know what ya mean about leave it alonebut ive bought it to enjoy it. Got a mint low miler as i wanted a good one i could just play with and not have to spend money on just getting it up to standard..u get me?

If i can just make sure the temps are safe then ill be happy. No way am i cutting it though
As for the concours bit. Its a one owner 42k miles original example...but has now got mongoose(still have original exhaust) and chip etc. Also changed to clear indicators....so a tad modded! Not won any shows...the guy who owned it was about 60 when he sold it and just owned it to enjoy...not show! Not sure what i want to do yet but i intend to show it in some class

    Re: S1 Thread.........

    im finally here
picked my car back up on friday night(8pm)
started fitting all the glass, door panels etc..
stopped working on it at 11pm to get my other car then carried on working on it till 3am
back up again at 6.30am to go to get tracking done
arrived there at 8am and then my car decided not to start any more
spent a couple of hours trying to get it going again but the metering unit is knackered
called the rac to get me home and had to wait for 3hours
he told me it was the metering head(which i new already)then he would tow me home but he wasnt allowed as ive not got tax yet(and i didnt want him to tow it)
had to phone up for a low loader to bring it back home
changed the metering unit over then the bateery charger broke
    heres some pics

    No problem Dan.

I took a caliper back off my car today, need to find out the thread sizes etc for my flexi's....

Bit pissed off with it at the moment as nothing is happening with it.....getting to the engine side of things now which costs money, which I can't just lay my hands on straight away! Especially as the car stands me at around 10 grand as it sits now without engine and box!

    Re: S1 Thread.........

    not sure
some things ive had secondhand like front doscs, rear discs and rear calipers
but if everything was new it would be something like this

    car originally cost £1700
    front brakes £1000
    rear brakes upto £800
    master cylinder brake line £500
    wheels £1000
    engine £6000
    intercooler/radiator £700
    respray £800
    suspension £450
the thing i probably saved alot of money on was the shell as ive done all the welding myself
plus all the little bits and bobs

    Re: S1 Thread.........

I got some of my bits second hand too though. Any part on the car that has cost me wether it is second hand or new has been added into that educated guess. A lot of the car parts have been refurbished like the antiroll bars, hub carriers etc.

My shell cost me a grand in labour (a mate did it for me as it would have taken me ages to do it, he has been in the body trade nearly 20 years and it took him 12 months to sort, it would have taken me 48+ i recon!) It also cost me over a grand in bits. So i recon i got a good deal regards the repair of the shell.....although i did have to buy a few tools to do the job. I got a Snap-On welder, speed glas welding mask(automatic) £750 for the pair!! £300 DeVilbiss/Snap-On spray gun, vaious spot weld drill bits etc etc.

The car cost £2300 originally, The rest is for the mechanical bits.

    The rear arms cost £200
Front brake discs cost £400 for the pair!!
    Front calipers cost £300
    Rear calipers cost £130
    Rear discs cost £50
    Hand brake cable cost £20
    Rear caliper brackets cost £45
    Wheels cost £350
    Tyres cost £280
    Koni suspension cost £350
Polly bushes cost £220 for the full kit
    New fuel pump cost £100
New fuel pump cradle cost £50
    New tank cost £100
    New accumulator cost £20
    New servo cost £100
    New master cylinder cost £40
    New horns cost £25
New headlamps (X2 sets cos i broke one!) £80
    New grille £20
New Weather strips £50 for 4
    New heater matrix £30
New rear lamp lenses £35 for pair
    New gaskets for lenses £10
New bulb holders for rear lights ££15 for pair
    New bulbs all round £20
    New Washer pumps £20
    New washer pipe £10
    Parcel shelf £35
New tail gate gas struts £35
New wheel bearings all round £50

Just an insight to what it has cost me, there are a lot of little bits which i call consumable items which are like nuts and bolts etc etc, i have probably spent in excess of around £500 in consumable items alone!! There are other items which i have bought but can't remember at the moment.

    Re: S1 Thread.........

    Hi lads, thought I'd share a few pics of me S1 with ya, since I have had her out in the cun and could take some decent pics of her;

Loads more rust/rot in the floor pan and under the car too... Gonna need some serious welding to even get her close to an MOT, then the wiring in her is ABSOLUTELY ATTROCIOUS! Suprised it hasn't caused an electrical fire, honestly! So a new loom is required (unbutchered std loom) and then the engine needs a complete rebuild, as I blew the head gasket on her the other day! Oops!

BTW, reason she is on the 14" XR3i "Dogleg" alloys is cos I sold the others to a mate, and just had these lying around to roll her about on...

Mate sad to see that, hope you get it sorted soon as it seems a bit of a waste to have her sat there doing nothing, and when you do sort those alloys out pronto as they look really naff

    Re: S1 Thread.........

They do like shite don't they! WTF was Ford thinking when they designed them! I wouldn't even put them on a 1.1 Fiesta, let alone an XR3i!

Just can't afford to have the body work done at the mo Hopefully getting 2 new-ish doors and a full lock set in a couple of weeks tho, then as soon as I change jobs (soon I hope) I can start saving for the resto and respray... Look at the engine last, as even tho it is not in tip-top condition (lol, far from it) it still runs...

i think it all depends leeroy, im in a similar postion to DAZ with mine, but onces shes been stripped restored and running some serious power ill know that it was built by me. Obviously everybody wont want to take on a job that big its another each to their own kind of thing.

I know exactly what you mean, i have started doing mine, as most of you know, its not as bad as Daz's was but still needs a fair amount doing to bring it back to as new condition. But once its done i will know that its solid, and with the engine and mechanicals its gonna get will be fairly rapid as well

the rear tyres are rubbing on the shocks with the 17" wheels on
cant space the wheels out further as the rear bells take alot of the mounting location up
thinking about making some spacers up to my own spec to get round the problem

Scott R how you gettin on with yours!,mines not finished yet in answer to your post on rsoc s1 thread

    Re: S1 Thread.........

Forgot to mention, I did some more work on the S1 last night, and she's not as bad as I thought, basically at some point she's had new front wings, new doors, new sills and a new battery tray, the trouble is the work on some of it is bodged.

The battery tray and surrounding area I thought was rotten at first as it was completley covered in that horrible stone chip stuff, I spent most of last night rubbing it down and scrapping it off, I expected to find rot underneath but found a pretty clean new tray.
So Someone has obviously had it fitted, couldn't be bothered to get it painted so just slapped that crap over it.

I thought the inner wing on the passenger side was cracking due to rot, but when I looked at it closer I realised it was just filler, I scraped it off and there was a small repair behind it that isn't that bad at all, it didn't even need the filler over the top of the welded patch, it can be painted.

So I am quite pleased at the mo, I took some pics finally but won't be able to get them up for a couple of weeks, as I need to get them developed and then get round to my m8s at some point as he has a scanner.

Will continue progress this evening and take more pics
