    SC-303 (Astra GLS I 1.6)

    Hi There

Hope somebody can help me out with a minor problem that I am experiencing with the grundig SC-303 radio that came with my car. I cannot input the code, I have the code but the interaction between the clock display and the radio does not seem perfect. When I connect this radio I should get "safe" appear on the display so that I can go though the stage of inputting the code but I get no information on the display, I have gone though the correct steps but the display does not activate. Could this be caused be a loose cable or something? I had a word with my local vauxhall dealer but their answer was that this could be caused by anything so I am no nearer to narrowing down the problem. I have a vauxhall astra gls I 1.6 (1993), could the radio be at fault?. Another thing that is strange is that when I turn on the headlights the clock display dims but when I turn them off the display brightens to the normal level, I would of expected it to be the reverse. Is this normal?

Thanks for all your help in advance

    Thanks

    Ginger

    sounds like its buggered m8.

The dimming is correct. The display would look brighter at night when its dark so it dims it when you turn your lights on.

why not dump the grundig and get a new headunit ?

i did my apprenticeship with vauxhall mate
when u turn ur lights on the car thinks its dark and therefor dims the display so it doest blind u.
as for the dispay problem, it could be a couple of things, but i would say check all the connections but at the end of the day the radios are not really good quality and its actually quite good for it to last as along as it has.
    hope this helps

i have the solution for you in easy steps

    1. open car door

    2. insert head unit removal pins

    3. pull out head unit and disconnect all connectors from rear of unit

    4. throw it over your shoulder (without looking)

    5. fit a decent stereo thats makes your music sound like it should

    job done

When you plug in the radio have you got all three iso plugs in the back if you have it sounds like you either have a problem with the set or the display. Any good car audio shops should be able to get an engineer to test this for you.
