    Any Subaru Experts here ?

    Hi

Is there any subaru experts here or can somebody point me in the right direction ?
I've got a subaru legacy turbo (1991 j plate). Its a uk car.
Its just decided to bust its gearbox (5th has gone , rest ok)
Can somebody tell me if an impreza gearbox fits and/or where to get one impretza or legacy, whatever one will go on.

    Cheers

    Craig

Don't know if they fit, but if they do you will have a problem getting them off of the engine.

I did an Impreza one and it moves off box 10mm and then jams solid.

If you are doing it yourself you need to undo the 10mm allen key on the NS of the bell housing and remove the release bearing shaft then it comes off piss easy. If you dont, you have to remove the clutch to free off the box.

Its not a bad job just looks awfull from under the bonnet.

    Hi mate,

I have a number for probably the UK's biggest Scoob breaker will dig it out for you now.
A Impreza box will fit but only if it is from a Phase 1 engined car(up to approx 98MY)but you may also need the rear diff as well depending on what the box comes from.
What has happened to the original box?I have rebuilt quite a few and most can be sorted easily.
Anyway heres that number for you Grade A 01663 744114 and speak to Andy.

    Cheers for the replys guys.
I tried A grade and they wanted £425 + vat for a legacy box off another car. Tested though.

    I broke 5th gear
I was doing 80mph on the motorway and then floored it. Turbo kicked in and the car kinda lurched. So i tried it again... and then i had no drive in 5th The local gerbox man thinks ive ripped the splines off the shaft under 5th gear... Apparently if the previous owner (i've only had it a month) had been putting arround in 5th with the car labouring then it would have started to cause excessive wear on the splines and then when i've err gave it some its gave up the ghost... must be that superchip and silly exhaust...

I'm gonna get my own box repaired. At least then i know what i've got, not just another unknown box. My box will be checked etc during repair.

While the cars all in bits i'm gonna have the cat removed and replaced with a cat pipe from scoobysport to match the rest of the system to get rid of that nasty turbo lag... just to save the box of course... not to make it faster or anything

It's a good laugh having a quick estate car! Look so as you whiz past

    Cheers

Re: Any Subaru Experts here ?

What do you want to know??

Im building a 600+ bhp impreza at the moment and can be found on www.scoobynet.co.uk

    Impreza gearbox will fit.. however..

92 - 96 impreza's use four bolts on the bellhousing
97 on used 8 iirc.. will still bolt up though...

Legacy has a different final drive.. so would possibly need the rear diff..

UK Impreza's use 1.1:1 drop at front so use a 3.54 rear diff..

    Wrx's / stis can use 3.9 rear and 4.44

Best bet is stick with legacy bits..

    Who's rebuilding the box??

Howard at www.hdcsubaru.com has loads of boxes..

if you rebuild replace the syncro's on 1st and 2nd..

If you want an uprated gearset speak to mark@lateralperformance.co.uk.. garanteed to 450lbft..

How slow is your legacy?? Fancy a remap..
