    Escort mk2 trackday / fun car

    So started this project back in 2007, when the car looked like this







    Was a 1.1, 1 owner from new and was road legal. I paid £1k, just before the BOOM obviously. Although, when I went to put it through the MOT it failed. Only a few minor things but corrosion being one of them.

    So I had a friend of mine strip it to repair. As always the deeper he dug the more rot he found. Even chicken wire and old newspapers tucked up in the rear wheel arches?!
    So it had a fair amount of new panels fitted.
    Front panel, wings, sills, door repairs, rear arches and boot wells.

    And I came back looking like this:







    then it sat for about 2 years, under covers and tents, until I could afford to get it painted.
    They tidied everything up, It cost a lot but it was a stunning job and they had a fine eye for detail.








    So now the building could begin. It took about a year for me and my dad to accumulate all the parts we needed and fit them.
    At times this was frustrating and very time consuming (being my first build) but it's all in the detail. But also a lot of fun and quite addictive. Not to mention the end product is so rewarding.

    We fitted a pinto and type 9 with English axle and tranx diff. Keeping it simple really.



    My dad wiping things over (he likes doing that)





    I wired it myself, nothing too over the top - electric fan, electric fuel pump etc. mostly standard other wiring.

    Then we did some track days in her! Which was great fun. Although a little nerve racking I'm always waiting for something to break the first few laps. I'll try and upload the vids from YouTube later.

    It it was great until last night though, when on the way back from classic car meet in MK the alternator packed up and left us on the m1 til recovery arrived at about 2.45 am. Bit tired today! But it will be back out there in no time and I've got bigger plans for this one (comes back to that addictiveness) ... More later.

    Basically the pinto I bought of my friend. He said it might be higher compression but he wasn't sure and I haven't checked. Standard head, fast road cam, twin 40s. I estimate it's about 110-120bhp? Not had it rolling roaded.
    But there's a duratec I'm building just saving up for all the bits, buying as and when I can. Cams, pocketed standard pistons, throttle bodies looking at about 220bhp.

    Not sure how the chassis will cope. Leaf springs, bilstein shocks non turetted, tramp bars and panard rod.

    Should handle fine, the English axle will be your achilies heal, i run a 200Hp Pinto with a smiliar set up, too much grip is what will wreck your english diff, just dont go too sticky with tyres and launch it from a standing start.

    Great car, very nice attention to detail. What have you wrapped the clutch cable in? Mine has just snapped due to the plastic melting, letting in water, and going rusty.

    what a great looking car.good job getting it out and about.the car will be fine with that power.my old mans got an n/a cossie with about 220bhp and that on leafs,bilstiens all be it turreted,tramp bars,panhard and thats fine.plus its on 10" slicks and never done a shaft in 16 years of competition.just make sure the shafts always go back in the same sides

    About time for an update I reckon:

    So the pinto came out late last year. And the money I get from it went on conversion bits for the duratec from Retro Ford.



    After being a bit lazy the past few months (and buying and doing up a house), this weekend proved to be quite productive:



    The duratec got timed up and sealed up. All ready to drop in and start up
    Not quite but it looks ready, almost.

    Then we cut the gearbox tunnel out



    And put the new one in



    Still needs a bit of welding and finishing but I'm happy with the progress!

    I have a pinto alloy radiator powder coated black, wcxm with pinto mounts, standard steering arms to sell. If anyone needs those bits PM me.

    Wow, over 2 years since the last update?! Lots has been happening since so better show some pictures.

    So the engine was mounted in



    This gearbox mount was made from scratch, using the Mazda gearbox it sits slightly offset and no one seems to sell a mount off the shelf.







    Some more bits got bolted onto the engine



    Wiring in the ecu and tidying up some of the previous wiring hasn’t been my favourite job but the end is in sight now.
    The fuel injection system being installed



    An update to the look of the car also



    (RS 7” wheels for sale, if anyone is interested message me)

    So that’s where we are at the moment, currently need an ecu lead to connect the laptop to load a map and hopefully get it started!!

    Also updated the engine in my dads car in betwee





    Waiting for that to be mapped before we can use it in anger again!
