Ford Focus 2005 1.6 TDCI Smoking - and slow at times!!

    Hi,

got my mrs a focus 1.6tdci the (110bhp) im told - ive changed the fuel filter and air filter and given it a oil and filter change - has made a bit of a difference and some injector cleaner - again improved a little - but still smoking early doors and very sluggish at times with no umph as they say at times , motorway sweet as a nut, and sometimes it pulls like a train??

Looked at all the issues before buying like turbo but this is working - but some carbon has built up by the injectors during its life - clean all this off during the service.

Any help ideas would be great

Or have i been sold the 90bhp car as these dont have good comments about the power and general us and fuel consumption?

    Many Thanks

If carbon by the injectors then will probably need injector seals doing, not a massive nob for someone mechanically minded, egr valves are pretty common for getting clogged up too

Check for carbon around the Injectors again If you cleaned It off as said Injector seals are common I have changed a few don't let the carbon build up too much the Injectors can be a bitch to get out...

    What year is your focus?
On mine it's behind the fuel filter easy to do - but agree have a look at your injectors as well, clear the carbon and blow off with some air.

You tube shows a good guide for you to watch. Only 3 mins long.

Take fuel filter cage away, put the filter to one side, I took the cover under the windscreen wipers out, left the plastic bit on though.

Took the shield away as well, and there it is.
2 x 8 mm bolts at the rear - and if your taking the egr out there is a steel clip use pliers around the connecting pipe.

    Hope this helps.

I agree with Evans. Had them so tight they have pulled the sleeve out with them before when they've been left too long.
