    48 DCOE SP Ram Pipes/Trumpets available ???

At the moment I have fitted 60 mm long trumpets on my 48's with no filters. What I want to do is fit a filter to save my engine when its all put back together.
But with them being in a Mk2 Esocrt I am limited on space against the inner wing so my choice of 150mm filters is out of the window. So with me possibly being able to squeeze in 100mm filter I am looking to fit smaller ram pips to get better air flow into the carbs. Problem is I cant find anyone that can do me a set? Mr Mexit had some made up by Burtons but I am just wondering if anyone has any off the shelf anywhere?

Also on this subject, when using PiperX filters is there still the need for a gap between the end of the trumpet and the inside of the filter with them beingthe foam type?? I see them as just one big filter sock with a metal inner lining??

    What says you folks then??

Nope, just the standard length like I have fitted already. It was Dave that told me he could not get any differnt ones.

You'll struggle to get 'off the shelf' ones for 48's , 50's and even 55's
even engine builders cant get them, well the propper full radius ones anyway,

but what you can get is the spun alluminium trumpets without the flanges on, then you have to weld a flange on to bolt them to the carbs,
this is what my engine builder does anyway.

I take it these are for your mate with the orange one?

what length do you need or better still whats the distance you have available from the carbs/filter mounting face to the inner wing?

    Dave,
Your proposed WCXMember will move engime across some distance.
Might be best to wait for final measurement.

    However,
Car will preform better with say 50 or less mm long ram tubes.

Any disturbance to inlet air will alter preformance.
A car I tuned had filter socks fitted and I recon they were resonsable for 70 odd HP and 1500 rpm, deficite.
From memory the distance is 2/3rds the ram pipe opening diameter, from anything.

If u get a spit back, say good by to foam filters, bonnet, engine bay etc etc.

Steve, yes they are for the orange beastie fella. The trumpetrs fitted just now are 60mm long from carb face to trumpet end. And are too long! I was thinking maybe around the 40 mm figure. But as Roger says I am best off fitting the engine back in and measuring up.

Roger, why will the WCXM move the engine accross?? Yeah it will move up and possibly back a tad, but the width will still be the same and so will the center line??

I take it these are SP's? I was going from memory??

MexIt had some ally ones welded onto back plates so I amhoping Steve can get me some through his mate??

I did not get that much spit back, if any really. But its always a possiblity! K+N Challenger kits are maybe my best bet!

Sorry Dave, not had chance to phone him today, been busy @ work with meetings all day not to mention the pub lunch but I will ring him tommorow 4 definiate.
The ones he uses are like or maybe they are the jenvey ones as pictured above you then have to weld a flange on them to bolt them to the carbs.

the ones you got now look like my old ones, they want throwing in the bin and replacing with full radius ones, but they are better than nowt.

they definately look like dcoe-sp's to me
dont use K&N's if you can help it especially if you havn't got much room as you get a resonance of the top plates so I'm told.

Cheers for that info Roger, I can see the pic now I am back on my lap top!!

Steve, as long as the "lunch" was fine my mate! I would prefer full radius pipes as you say. Still not sure on the filter choice tho!!!

This is a before and after pic. XcXM make more room for filters.

Theres more than one way to filter it.
Steve has a pretty good unit.

Re: 48 DCOE SP Ram Pipes/Trumpets available ???

Cheers for the mails Roger mate!! I dont know why, but I can now see the pictures on turbosport???

Anyway, I hope it doesnt move my engine that much! Are you sure you never just bought an out of true one? It will mean your gearbox and drive shaft will now be out of center also wont it?? Also my Tony Law manifold is designed to run almost flush with the contour of the inner wing so it would probably foul on that side! I have never heard before of an engine moving from side to side using WCXM's??? Good for more filter space but would be bad for my exhaust!!
