    Rear Axle

Can someone explain what ratios are for what axle. Rs is ??, 1600 is ?? so on. thanks
The reason is my diff is whinging like a pig on my Car I have a 2 litre lump in it and I don't know what the axle is or what it should be. I have been offered a 1100 axle to put on for the time, being how long is this likely to last???

    Re: Rear Axle

    As standard a Mk2 RS2000 or Mexico is 3.54
    Mk2 1600 Crossflows could be 3.54 (Sport/Harrier) or 3.89 (L/GL)
    Mk2 1100/1300 s are either 4.11 or 3.89
    Mk1 1600 Mexicos were mostly 3.77

All the English axle diffs are the same unit with different CWP ratios so if the 1100 one is OK it should not be a problem.

Depending on what you've got already it may change your top speed and acceleration. There should be a metal tag on one of the nuts holding the diff to the axle which has the ratio on it - other than that you will need to count the teeth on the CWP or work out how many times the road wheels turn in relation to a turn of the prop or diff flange.

    Cheers

I have experience with putting 300 hp thru an english axel.

U blokes dont recon they will handle it.

The issue is to get the wheel hop under control.

Like 'Checkyouout' said, IT'S THE SAME AXLE....so it'll last (in theory) as long as a 1300cc, 1600cc or a 2000cc axle!! Identical axle with a different CWP ratio, and the only difference in strength will be the fact that the teeth on lo-ratio CWP's are not as beefy as hi-ratio ones ('cos theres more of 'em in the same space - hence, thinner).

It could snap a shaft the first time you drop the clutch.....or it could last another 20 years....it's not an exact science.

It also depends as to what 2 litre lump you're putting through it. You don't specify whether it's a 90bhp STD Pinto, or 270bhp of injected BDX.......the latter tends to have a detrimental effect on the longevity of English axles.

    Thanks All
the lump is a bog standard one, I'll give the 1100 a go, either I'll have 0-60 in 6 secs or like you said it will go pop.
    cheers
