engine rebuild cost??

cars been running crap for a few days and last night it started to miss fire so as i pay £90 pound a year for the aa i thought id call them out , cylinder number 3 no compression , so when i take it to a garge and they take the head off for a look should i just go for a full blow rebuild ?? how much have u chaps paid for your re builds?? any one took there car to Steve Scott at A1 Rally Motorsport ive heard good things but dont know if he is expensive , plus last question lol what do they do on a re build what do they change /replace/new parts, is cam belt included ? cheers for any help

if a garage does it i reckon about £1500 do it yourself apart from the timing everything is easier than you think

Quite agree, hire a hoist and get on with it..

No seriously, if you can read, and follow instructions, you can pretty much do anything you put your mind too, i know, i am living proof, and the cvh is childs play...

well just got a email from pts saying for a re build it £1600.00 plus the vat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u can buy a whole escort turbo for that. when it was playin up mate took number 2 lead off and was running the same so i took it home and re placed the lead with an old one and now number 3 dont work so im going to take your advice and try and change the head gasket my self just need to go get a manual and ill have a go at it

Wonder how much it would cost to do it yourself?
I've always fancied trying it myself, but haven't really got anywhere to do it.....

I'd never get one round the back of the house, and I don't think I'd get away with using the front porch......

if your doing it your self it would cost about £700 thats for a full rebuild.

dident need one in the end just the top end rebuild, cost me 580, new cam kit ,cam belt ,head skimmed, wheel bearing, oil change, set up and labour so not too bad now it runns so sweet i could drive it about 24/7 lol and its got its proper guuuuuurgle now
