can anyone reccomend me a good specification for a pinto engine please.

im looking to buy a second hand one, and spend around £700 tops on it.

i want as much rpm / bhp out of it, but dont want to pay silly prices

any good places to look online for this kind of stuff?

any reccomended bits when buying / lookign for a second hand pinto?

    Thanks very much indeed

you wont get a lot for £700, id get an injection one with all the loom, pump, and filters out of a granada, spend the rest of the money on good plugs, good leads, new cam belt, new oil filter, maybe a k&n airfilter, and mild fast road cam, should have enough left to get it rolling roaded and set up right. all imho of course.

    Re: pinto question

might be able to push it to 120bhp, maybe a bit more. the main thing is to get em set up so you actually get what your sposed to from it in the first place. if you can find one already tuned, that'll be cheaper, but its more likley to have been thrashed about.
I would be looking at getting a low milage one from an auto granada as they are more likley to have had an easy life, and you could probably buy a whole granny now for £100-£200, they are dirt cheap, and the granada loom is the better one to have as its all seperate from the rest of the wiring.
Granada rear calipers are also the same as cossie ones, so you might get your money back if you can get a car cheap enough.

I picked 1 up for £40. Engine loom and box now in my RS. Rear calipers to fit. Not easy fitting all the EFi bits .

    Re: pinto question

even if you dont want it injected, buy an injection engine and put a carb on it, the injections run on unleaded. standard twin choke weber is good for nearly 150 bhp anyway, dunno if your budget would stretch to head work, but the exhaust side of a pinto is rubbish, a decent 4 branch helps loads.

    Re: pinto question

I have just done the injection conversion myself, and it really has made a difference to the driveability of the car. I would recommend it to you all if you can stand all the fiddling about (about 3 days work). . Kent cams do a sports injection cam kit for around £150, Burtons say it gives you 15-20 extra horses(next on my shopping list). I really miss the sound of my 40's though

    Re: pinto question

180bhp is way off your budget mate, you'll melt gearboxes and axles with that much power, so you'll need to buy better ones, atlas axle is gonna £100-£150 minimum, and standard width will need bubbles or you need to get it narrowed, and a type 9 from a 2.8 is only rated for 160bhp.

    Re: pinto question

I'd have a look in the back of motoring news for a cheap head/cam etc thats how I built mine up it cost me £1300 and produced between 150-175 @ the wheels (175-200 @ fly wheel) depending on dyno.

    Re: pinto question

Is someone waiting for a pinto turbo??

Is this of any interest. Start of the manifold.

Price for the 2 flanges only £400 That was the machining cost. Yes a bit over the top. I didn't pay the for them though . manifold for a T25 about £120 may be more though need to get welding cost first. The decompression plate about £50 but depends on number to be cut. The rest of the stuff is second hand RS turbo gear and 1 or 2 EEC iv ecu's still need to work that out though.
