    Troublesome 2L pinto

Has anyone every had a hard time tryin to get their pinto to start. Mines is just playing the ass and getting on my nerves, it has the following and just wont start:

    lightened 1.6L pinto flywheel
    motocraft electronic ignition
    cortina 2l starter
    Peugeot solex 2barrel carb

those are the only things that the engine didn't come with. it was working before i got it, but know it is jus f*cking around.

the engine turns over very slow and when it does start the engine locks off and stalls/or if u try to rev it, it cuts out .

what could be wrong with this engine.

That does sound weird mate does it run ok on tickover but stall when you try to rev it?If thats the case then it might be a fuel problem probably caused by the carb

u got a good earth to the engine this would cause it to turn over slow
also the 2.0l starter is a pre engaged type and because you are using the 1.6l flywheel u should use the inertia type starter as the teeth on the flywheel aint the same if i remember tight
and junk the carb for a proper weber one

Sounds like the ignition timing is too far advanced. Try backing it off a little.

    Re: Troublesome 2L pinto

could it be that the battery is not producing enough cranking amps. How much cranking amps does a pinto need?

Are you guys using the standard starter without much
    problems?

when starting the positive feed wire gets very hot and the starter motor starts to smoke and get hot...
