these are awesome!!!
these are awesome!!!
After looking at the pictures and the quality am after a bonnet, I have a couple of questions tho.
Am using it on a circuit race car and it's has a flat floor and a front splitter. The shear force on the suction from the floor and spoiler is sucking the bonnet down that much it has cracked the centre support on the middle of the bonnet. What's the chances of some extra support on the supports lol I can send pics of the example if you want?
Still in the market for a Mk1 bonnet and boot if that's still on the cards??
I still want a bonnet !!!!!

just a quick update, I have been working with ones and twos in developing an inner frame for this bonnet, the first frame still allowed the bonnet to bow in the middle from the air entering the bonnet so I am now adding some further strengthening bars, the new frame however is allowing the use or rear hinges or pics without the inner frame showing cuts when using pins. Internet is shocking here at the moment, but will upload some pics later tonight when I get home which will show how ive made the new inner frame mould and laying up the carbon kevlar part from that mould. Pics are on my photobucket if people want to look straight away
hi mate, I can add extra strength which is fine, but I need to just comfirm the design of this current one firtst. Post some pics up if possible of your existing bonnet.
Many thanks
unfortunately I have no pics of the part out of the mould, but it came out fine, needs a radius adding instead of a chamfer on the front face to aid releasing. Anyway this is by the by, the main factor is that it was NOT strong enough for the job, so more ribs need to be added, the problem is that on a standard bonnet you have the return edges which run down each side next to the wings, this give major strength to the standard bonnet, but with this carbon one we cannot replicate that so additional ribs must be added. Im using the the above mould to make the inner cross again and also to make the additional ribs
With the main cross mow made and broken out of the mould I can start sanding the chamfer and turning it into a radius, the pic should make sense, when its made in carbon it should look really nice as well and be uber strong
Now im making the additional rebs
That's as far as ive got at the moment, I shall break out those additional ribs and start another set tomorrow, im pretty sure once these ribs are added to the inner frame it shall be more than up to the job but only time will tell as its all part of development work. Must say a massive thanks to ones n twos for help out in this department.
Thanks for looking
Tip top work that

got the last of the new bars done now so will start laying them in place towards the end of the week, if these work Im hoping for the first product run to start this month fingers crossed :-)
Any news on these?
Rust....Rust....Thats not rust, Its speed Holes...DUH!
Scrimping and Saving!
Was just about to ask... My car aint far from being finished, so need it before xmas if poss..
hi guys, sorry for not being back on here recently, im in a bit of a pickle, ive made various lengths of ribs for the new underskin but each time I lay them up ready to mould they just dont look very appealing to the eye, i could do with a few suggestions, I know it will be strong enough which ever design I choose but I still want it to look pleasing if that makes sense. Im still retaining the centre cross but want to introduce some ribs down the sides so any suggestions are welcome
Looks great what you've done Raj.
Personally im not that fussed how it looks underneath as long as it doesn't flex at speed.
thanks nelly,
think its just me being a helmet, will just add some ribs tonight and post up another pic, I know most of oyu arnt too fussed but it would be nice to try and achieve a strong inner frame that also looks pleasing to the ewe for when your bonnets are open
I think most people are their own worst critic and I appreciate you are keen to make something that looks nice.
Can you not just put a 90 degree lip along the edges to add the strength, like a steel bonnet, or is that hard to mold?
its easy to mould but causes issues with the weave presentation, also adds more stress to the demoulding process, remember I dont lacquer any of my products so the part has to be released perfectly, if I was top coating these parts then I could afford to have a few imperfection around the edge as the top coat would hide them.
Here is a few pics of a frame idea, let me know what you think lads
Remember these will have a high gloss and shiny finish
comments welcome
Looks ok to me.
Great attention to details their raj.. Lots of hard work we can see. I like the strengthening your doing. I understand that it can be achieved by diff ways but like your saying. It can look better or not and actually "add" somethings to the finish product in terms or nice details.
I think for most with road cars not lower speed event type racing , it being at least as stiff as a metal one is top priority mate as I'm sure you know with the development work you have done ☑️

Thanks chaps,
well I will crack on with the above design. Should have a pic of it ready for moulding by the end of the week
I am tempted though to see just how strong the first inner frame would be with a core material included as imo that design looks the best due to it being very similar to the original. Just waiting on some fabric to arrive so I might just see how strong it would be
cheers freddy :-)
Raj .. I'm going turbo cosworth so when you do mine would you be able to integrate old style vents that you see on more period cars like jags for example??.. I have that at the mo but on a fibre glass grp bonnet

I get the large X and the longer ribs around the outside of the bonnet, but I really dont like the shorter strengthening ribs and the way they look.. It starts looking all cluttered.
Maybe you should bin those?
remember, most of us dont need it for such a specialized usage like the guy who needs it for speed runs, so its all becoming a bit OTT now... (Besides, I need a bonnet soon )
ok carsten, I shall bin off the smaller ribs and just keep the main ones.
Yaaay!
Looks spot on. Keen to see the finished product.
thats chaps, been batting on over the weekend, here is another small update:
final layer of glass
Outer skin mould after separation in need of a thorough clean up but both skins separated nicely
New and final custom inner frame mould, looks a tad like the union jack
Just need to clean both these up then I can crack on with the first one. Just need to confirm the order of production
raj can you count me in for one please
right chaps I have ordered the wide 1250 2x2 carbon for the outer skins this morning and will be starting production as soon as that lands, I will be starting producing on the inner frames this weekend. The order of production is as follows:
1. Nelly
2. Carsten
3. Mossymk2
As you have all paid your £75 deposits you only have to now pay £300 to allow production. If you would like to wait until the new year so you can get xmas etc out of the way that's is fine just let me know, you have been more than patient with me so I can at least do the same to you good folk. If you want me to crack on asap then if you could make the payment to pay@autoflock.co.uk and post a quick message on here as to when it was made with instruction to pins or hinges on the rear that would be great.
@ davidfox280585 - Hi Dave mate, unfortunately I closed the window for the group buy special price some time ago, I just didn't think it was fair to the people who paid up front and committed to the project, plus this work gon into this development will mean that a fair few bonnets will need to be sold to make any sort of return. But if you are still interested in one I can do you one for the retail price of £475 + £25 postage or you are more than welcome to pop down and collect?
So if this sounds like money grabbing but even with the orders so far that doesn't even come close to the money and time invested in the project, which isn't too much of an issue as this was more about getting on with the Turbosport community and working on a car I absolutely love (and wish I could afford)
Thanks for the reply raj, that's fine not really come onto the site since I registered years ago and wasn't here when the group buy was about that's all,
will give it a miss then as I cant afford that much as I have to finish my s1 but I thought if they ere on a group buy id join in.
look awesome gents
I'm game for a mk1 bonnet and boot if a group buy is going to happen.
can someone provide a bonnet to be moulded?
Yep, I can supply one.
