    Alloy Front Hubs

What are the diffo versions of ally front hub that you can get for mk2 escorts. (I assume they aren?t all the same?)
Do they come with either large or small wheel stud sizes? n can you get them with different disc offsets (i.e. the mounting flange is machined back more) or is it bearing size that only varies?
Btw, are there any disadvantages in using alloy hubs over the std cast part?

Is that 3 questions or 1

As far as I know its only the bearing size that changes. You can get group 4 size or standard RS size. Doesn't come with studs so you can pick whatever length you want. Aluminium is going to be lighter and with better heat transfer away from the brakes. Fatique performance isn't going to be as good (i.e. they won't last forever) as even small stresses add up over time. I think they are stronger though...(wow aerospace engineering degree finally has a use! lol)

To be honest they arnt much lighter! Ill weight them over the weekend, the alloy one's have far more metal on them for strengh whereas the cast iron items are wasted away lots more, its only the outer bearing that gets bigger.

They arnt the cure for snapping hub spindles though

they offer different track widths. eg Grp 4 is wide.

Standard alloy hub:- standard stud size, standard RS/Capri/Bilstein bearing sizes (inner and outer).
GP4 alloy hub:- larger location holes for Group 4 studs, standard RS/Capri/Bilstein bearing sizes (inner and outer).
GP4 big bearing alloy hub:- same as normal GP4 hub, but with larger (aka. much more expensive...) outer bearing. I can't find any advantage in this last type.....we don't stock them or use them.

    Thanks for the relies

Anyone like to make an educated guess if it would be safe to take up to 10mm off the disc mounting flange of the shown hub? (I won't hold you to it )

    Re: Alloy Front Hubs

Just got your PM mate. Yes we do stock alloy hubs, standard and GP4. None in stock at the moment, but expecting delivery in the next week or so.
Can I be nosey and ask why you want to take 10mm off mate, are you having problems with disc offset or something???
If you desperately want them that way I can have them done for you, but I'll check first with my machine shop guru to see if they'd be safe......

    Re: Alloy Front Hubs

Sure, atm I?m Just playing about with parts whilst I get the original brake setup sorted out again (bust a stub axle/caliper)

I've have some 320mm discs n was just wondering if it?s feasible to get them to fit. As it is atm a std cast iron hub would need about 10mm taken off the disc flange area to get the disc to clear the lower ball joint, but then the flange area would be to thin I see those cast hubs appear to be cast the same thickness all the way through (only ever seen a pic tho) so I?m thinking they might do?

    Re: Alloy Front Hubs-Differences

    So I ask someone.............
    "Hi Roger,

This hub definitely looks like a Gartrac item (the Rallydesign and Peter
Lloyd Rally items are finished off a little differently) but as to the type
of hub it is a little hard to say from the photo. It could be a large
bearing Group 4 hub, but I can't tell from this photo if it takes Group 4
studs or normal studs (the hubs which take Group 4 studs are chamferred on
the other side for the bolt, whereas they don't do that for normal studs). I
know Gartrac do 3 types of hubs :

    - Standard Alloy Group 4 hub (in both a Group 4 stud or a normal stud)
    - Large bearing Group 4 hub (the bearing I believe is much larger, but the
internal race still suits the Capri/RS stub axle)
    - RS 2000 Alloy hub (ie standard offset and studs)

Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

Yes. the Group 4 hubs do give a wider track by approx 10 mm each side (fromover the standard items, I confirmed this with David Bignold at
    Gartrac.
This to accept the wider atlas axel.
