    Manon Racing Products - NZ

Not really kept upto date with the 4age stuff for some time but just came across manon racing products. They look they do some great quality bits and these products were not on the market when I was doing my engine install. It looks like they have solved a lot of problems with the 4ag and this is a one stop shop if your looking at powerful n/a build.

I feel another 20v blacktop on the cards. Anybody up for a 270hp 9age? Back in the game

Dealt with Barry the owner alot over the past couple of years and their stuff is spot on! Got my next shipment due in a couple of weeks

Barry's dad has a mk2 escort with a 300bhp N/A cosworth lump, was being reshelled the last I heard.

All I can say is I hope you got deep pockets!

Based on what they provide and what I would need factoring in the exchange rate and shipping, there pricing is very good.

Pockets need to be deep but if want the best 5/7 or 9age in the UK then deep pockets are a given. You can't go fast for free

Compared to other companies supplying similar kit their pricing is spot on even after shipping, taxes and duty and uses the likes of CP, Carillo, Moroso etc. so the quality is top notch. If you like I can pm you a few costs for shipping, tax and duty etc. as I'd rather not let the secret out on the forum yet

Yeah tell me about it! I've got a slightly specific target in mind but the end goal is more or less the same

Yes please Dean. I was impressed with the the manufacturers used in the stoker kit and what was on offer. To be honest I've been thinking about the 5age kit (1.8 4age) and assuming proper Cams such as toda and a proper cnc head then we are looking at a possible 230-250hp. That's Formula Atlantic figures and I'm convinced its possible.

Having read a article from one of the original TRD team, he highlighted the main problems with the 4age at the time which really was down to the block reinforcement and crank flex. MRP have solved 95% of that problem and from memory toda do a upgraded water pump kit to deal with the high revs.

All the pieces are there now pal to really get a serious 4age on the road that can really mix it.
That MRP sump is tailor made made for the escort and will easily clear the crossmember.

Re: Manon Racing Products - NZ

Will dig my paper work out and pm the figures over when I get a chance.

Toda cams don't get enough lift asome the max they do now is 9.2mm lift 304 duration I think. They used to do 10.8mm cams but they are discontinued the last i heard which was a couple of years ago.

It is possible and I have the specs for a 5age which made 253bhp on the 10.8mm toda cams, hand ported head, HKS 5age crank (the original 16v 5age stroker crank), and ladder caps and a few other bits but he went into some detail to squeeze every last bit out of it. That's what the bar for a 5age 20v is set currently as I haven't seen any others match it.

The issue with 5age is that you have to go 83mm bore to get the true 1800cc but the 4age block is very thin between bores so its the max it can go. I'll post a pic of a 82mm bore block and show you what I mean. Another issue is that the 83mm stroke puts additional strain on the side walls of the block at the bottom of the bore so in order to reinforce the block most use hardblok in the water galleys. Can be done in a few ways but make sure you have a decent alloy rad up front if it's done as it's more likely to overheat. I have a few of my own ideas up my sleeve for reinforcing the block but I havent got the time at the moment to look at them from a practical aspect.
another issue with the block is the bottom walls flex under load and high revs, the TRD boys used a cast dry sump which is stupidly thick to hold the walls and reduce thus flex. Look up a pic of a FA spec sump and you will see what I mean.

The next part is crank walk at high revs due to the main caps flexing. TRD solved this by using crank ladder caps like what is sold by mrp and tomei.

Mrp solved the entire bttom end flex by making g the crank girdle which does the job of the ladder caps and the FA spec dry sump but does one better because it joins the block walls to the mains caps.

It's the oil pump gears that can disintegrate under high revs but today do a upgrade for thIs, water pump isn't a issue but run a underdrive pulley to stop cavitation at high revs especially if the block is filled with hardblok.

The mrp sump looks like it will but it doesn't unless you have the engine silly far forward and practically touching the rad, been there done that got the pictures There is a compromise which I will figure out properly this summer.

Hope I haven't divulged to much as to why I've been so quiet over the past 2 years
