    Zetec Exhaust

I'm going for a zetec engine in my mk2 Escort now. I am probably going to use the ashley manifold but its not clear what exhaust fits it. I would assume it would be the x-flow one as the exhaust is on the same side as the zetec. Does this sound right? Also would it be a standard system or a 2.25" system? 2 silencers or 1?

    Cheers
    Richard

I think ashley actually make a manifold for the zetec conversion i cant be too sure you would have to ring them up mate

Depending on which sump you use the manifold will be in different positions, so a piece may have to be made to marry up with the 2 1/4 x-flow 2 box system.

    Re: Zetec Exhaust

ok thanks for that. I was going to use the Ashley manifold anyway cos its cheap! I will get the 2 1/4 2 box system too and see how it fits. Not going for a single box system, read some bad things about them (bit loud for everyday car!). Once I get the engine in I'll post some pics in my restoration thread.

    Thanks for the help

    Re: Zetec Exhaust

I used an Ashley manifold, mated up to an RS back system by a piece of straight pipe, it works(ed) fine till the engine blew!!!

What engine mounts/induction system are you using on yours?

I was going to use the Retro Ford engine mounts because I want to use the standard crossmember. Probably use his sump as well unless I can get a 1.8 CVH sump to fit. I will use the raceline water rail as it costs the same as the Retro Ford one but looks a lot neater. For induction... a set of twin 40's and 1.4/1.6 cvh ignition management. Using an RS2000 gearbox so probably use a redrilled flywheel.

    Re: Zetec Exhaust

I used retros engine mounts, sump water rail, w/pump and flywheel. Not knocking retro, as hes done loads of conversions, but it was a complete pain in the arse as the engine fouled on the bulkhead until I cut the crossmember mounts for the engine and slid the engine forward loads, then the engine sat in high on the front and low on the back. Due to the change in position I had to put a longer prop on as the escort one was miles too short by now, and to top it all, the engine went endy after less than two weeks, cause as of yet unknown, but its been suggested by several people that it was due to oil starvation of the front of the crack by the sump angle. Apart from the sump and engine mounts, the rest of his gear was OK.
Induction wise I used trust electricals 'drain pipe' induction set up, which I was also not too pleased with as it would never run right!

I can't be assed with throttle bodies cos I can't afford the management. I'm gonna try carbs because I already have some from my pinto and the CVH management plugs straight into the zetec sensors so I have heard. I will have to phone Retro Ford and talk to them about the problems you have had. I don't fancy paying all that money and having that many problems!!

    Re: Zetec Exhaust

With the problems Ive had, I wish I had just forked out a few quid more and gone on the cossie route. Like I said, Dave at retro has converted loads, its probably just my luck to have got sent a duff batch of gear.

    Re: Zetec Exhaust

Ive already sent him a lengthy email, but as hes a busy guy, Im not expecting a reply that quickly. Phone calls end up lengthy and expensive, and I ve already thrown enough wonga at the car as it is.
