T maxx isnt a very good truck, breaks very easy, best all rounder is the savage, but its hard to say what you should get.

Try this place for lots of info.

lol, i would have mentioned that, but he's in the states, dont think hes gonna fly back here for your truck!

dont save it, sell it if you can, it'll be a while before he's allowed to spend any more cash, i saw what he bought the other day

What truck have you got popup? Has it survived you learning to drive it?

Re: Nitro Truck - Should I get one??

Mines a Thunder tiger MTA-4 (sold as the associated MGT in the states)

i have managed to break it twice, but both times its been a cheap part, its tough (not as tough as a savage, but it breaks cheaper parts and is easier to fix)

In my opinion mines a better truck except that more shops carry savage parts on the shelf over here, and the savage IS tougher but it tends to break worse when it goes, and its not as easy to work on or keep in tune as mine.

but mine handles better, is better equipped out the box and its a tad bigger if thats important to ya.

Re: Nitro Truck - Should I get one??

The size doesn't matter (that's what I keep telling myself!!)
I would be willing to go for a smaller truck. It will be my first petrol remote controlled vehicle, so it will get bashed about while I'm learning to drive it. I used to have R/C cars a good few years back so I have some idea, but I broke them aswell
Seeing as I'm over here I thought I'd make the most of it as I've got time to learn and it won't cost me as much
The traxxas has got great reviews, that's why I was going that route! I was considering uprating some bits to help on the 'breaking' side of things. You can get a full roll cage for it for only $104!! http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=343
It will cost me the equivalent in dollars as it would pounds back home!!

I've been looking about and it seems like you was right, a lot of people who have bought the traxxas have said they keep breaking them
So iI have been looking at a Savage SS. It's the kit form which is something I would prefer. I'm going to register with some forums and ask the guys some questions. I'll let you know how it goes!!

Just to let you know, got a parcel of the posty today (bit on the large side!! ) And it's finally here, my savage ss Now all I've got to do is build it
I've resisted jumping in and starting, and instead just took the 2 thick manuals out of the box, they should put me to sleep tonight !!
Going to see a guy tomo about getting some stuff and I'll also get some batteries for my camera!! They would be a good idea

    Cheers for now

Re: Nitro Truck - Should I get one??

Well, if I can't work on my Mk2, and I can't get to Bruntingthorpe, best I do something with the truck
Been a bit of a pain, went to a local hobby shop and ordered some bits. Thought I was doing my bit for the local community!!
Trouble is now, lot's of the bits are on back order and he can't give me a date when they are due in!! I'm half tempted to buy some stuff of the internet but you just know that as soon as I order them, I'll get a phone call telling me the bits have come in!!!
Oh well, I'll see what happens next week
Thought I'd show you some more piccies of the garage

    Good clean start ??

More bits but trying to keep it tidy !

Well, it's a garage now, so it should be messy

Shock servicing. Uprated the shock oil. might as well do it now ??!!

    Cheers

Just thought I'd let you know how it was going. After a while waiting, I've got the parts for the upgrades, so have been a bit busy the last couple of nights putting it all together
Not finished yet but not long now. I'm not rushing it as it gives me something to tinker with at nights

    back built up

    Front with battery &servo box

    Front connected to the tvp's

looking more like a vehicle now

with wheels on. Was quite surprised by how big it is It's no little toy!

I'll let you know how I get on with the rest of it

they do suddenly grow when you put em together, you get used to how big they are when you outside with em, then get home and try and put it on a table or somethin and you remember what a cool toy it is! lol

Re: Nitro Truck - Update on progress

Just thought I'd give you another update. It's now up and running and I love it

You can see all the trail marks on the floor from the gunk coming out of the exhaust!! This was in the car park of the hotel. Just running it in

Went out today, after giving it a little service, changed my gearing to the road version (quicker ) and tightened up my slipping clutch

WOW What a difference that made Had a great time, got second gear as well. The thing flys I was still kinda running it in, though I had done more tankfuls then I needed. Just before I finished the tank, I moved across to a grass area (was in a big carpark) and it had patches of gravel all over.

TOPS had a great time. Went back and filled the tank again and went back to the same area 4 wheel drifts, dohnuts and all sorts of fun. I was a little disapointed when I was running it in, but not now Flipped it a couple of times but who cares

There is a big open area behind the hotel, with big mounds of dirt and gravel. Might go and give that a go tomo

    Cheers

Just a couple of piccies after it has taken a battering
Intend to change the air filter for a bigger one and then start to tune it I think it's quick enough as it is, so goodness knows what it will be like once tuned up
