sounds like a plan. i can drop the shitroen key off too... if i can find it!

getting there bud
For all my fans out there another small update, not really had a lot of time spare but managed to get a good day in yesterday
Handbrake cable mount, big thanks to stevieel for sending it to me
Stitched up the chassis rail and bulkhead side in the bay on the other side
And drilled the holes for the original type spotlight brackets i got off mcurzon all bolted up and at the end of my bed to help produce a bit of inspiration
The list:
Underside
Finish wire brushing the rest of the floor section and zinga it up
Fit rear panel stoneguard/diffuser thing and make it bolt on
Stitch the inner wing bit o/s and the bulkhead seam
Work out what the bubbling is on the front bit of chassis where the bulkhead is, it'l be a plate for sure
Srape off stonechip from inner wings
Outer bulkhead seams both sides when i have done that
Passenger a pillar repair (not as mad as the other side thank god!)
Fit other wing rail to cup strengthener
Fit inner wing upright strengtheners
Front panel
Stone chip
Bare metal engine bay
Paint silver!!!
Topside
the sunroof hole
body prep
and shiny silver paint
Neat seam welding Dave.
In the pics in real life its a bit messy there was paint/oil/underseal/seam sealer in the joints which runs out into the weld pool beautifully when it gets a bit hot
looking good arse flex,flip mode
At this rate dave it`ll be done before mine
well done bud every little helps towords the finnish.
hav'nt seen you on here for a few weeks. where you been?
Lol i hope its done before yours terry, that would mean itl be done pretty soon cos yours needs much less work
And trig i dunno i have been lurking but been real busy working with my dad and early starts mean early nights
Should have a day or two off next week so should get a big lump done on the car, hoping the get the pillar done and the strengtheners in and maybe wire brush and paint the rest of the floor in zinga too
looking good Dave good to see your still cracking on with it.
Ant
welld one mate
biggy
Its that time of the day again
Got nearly all this week off so gonna try to get almost all of the shitty jobs done bringing it that little bit closer to being finished under there ready for the stonechip
Sunday:
Patched up the pillar thats going in
Welded some captive m6 nuts (to take the plastic number plate bolt/screws) to the number plate holes as they are in the front box section so you cant get to the backs when the front panels fitted and iv not seen the proper clips anywhere
Also dug the wings out of storage and lined up the front panel and welded on the corresponding tabs, all these welds are now ground back too so just got to bare metal it and the panels ready for fitting (after i fix the jig )
Monday:
Set about getting the drip rail to top cup strengthener on the other side and also stitching the inner wings to bulkhead, so just the other side to stitch and thats some more shit jobs done!!
Before
After
Today:
Decided to do the shittest of all the jobs left...the n/s door pillar
Cut out the shit, its nice of ford to have painted inside here.....or not as is the case! no wonder the pillars always fall out of them, im gonna cake the insides with waxoil when its done and i suggest you all do the same!!!
Repair all chopped to size (or a little bit under ) and painted with as much paint as i could get in there
Loads of paint also on the strengthener which missed the paint in the factory
And almost all welded in, got to put in a plate on the inside closing panel, then plug the pillar to that, and also make a piece up to repair the bit of the splash panel i chopped out to make it easier and remove some rusty shite
And from the other side all welded just needs grinding off
More pics tomorrow if i get time to put them on before work
The list:
Underside
Finish wire brushing the rest of the floor section and zinga it up
Fit rear panel stoneguard/diffuser thing and make it bolt on
Work out what the bubbling is on the front bit of chassis where the bulkhead is, it'l be a plate for sure
Srape off stonechip from inner wings ----done a bit more!
Outer bulkhead seams both sides (just o/s left)
Passenger a pillar repair (not as mad as the other side thank god!) ------ i lied
Fit other wing rail to cup strengthener
Fit inner wing upright strengtheners
Roll cage plates almost forgot them!
Front panel
Stone chip
Bare metal engine bay
Paint silver!!!
Topside
the sunroof hole
body prep
and shiny silver paint
excellent shit flip mode, getting there m8 and your doing a fine job of it all imo m8.wont be long now before im ripping the arse out of that as well,fantastic.switch-it-on-it,yyeeeeeeee
Does look like it's coming on well!
Looking forward to seeing more progress and given how long you waited for the spotlight brackets think they need to be put on car asap!!
Lol cheers mate, they are on the front panel if thats any use to your plan drastically need to change the jig before i can fit the front panel, fitting the panel is an easy job....changing the jig isnt! Also they need modifying in the vice so the lamps dont point at the sky cos they are both bent a bit
Top stuff dave
June's getting awfully close now...
Out for a drive on a sunny spring day reminds me why I got this car
Cheers stu but i dont agree....its 4 months away, thats almost half a year it will be done dont panic
fantastic work as usual David
Real men do it Sideways
Nice one mate
Soon catching me up
Just one thing any chance you could take the sharp corners off of those tabs you welded to the front panel? They look very un professional and i would hate to see you cut those delicate hands.
Not been on here much lately as work has been a bit mentle, some very impresive progress by your good self Dave
June 4 months away i really must find some motivation/time to get on with mine
Cheers boys, all helps with the enthisiasm
Matt they are just stuck on there for the minute, i will trim them down once i get the wings lined up and the holes drilled in them so i know how much i can take off
Lee, glad to impress mate yours cant be too far off now can it?! at least your done with the welder so your that bit ahead of me!
And for todays update
The plate on the inside closing panel, this was patched during the last resto with a plate just over the top of the rot
Finished off the pillar, had to chop the angled mounting flange off in the end because it was on a bit wonky so the wing mounting face wasnt straight, hence the weld....my mistake
And patched in the splash panel to complete the pillar marathon just the lovely task of grinding back the welds....i think it can wait til the bottoms done
So i moved inside and welded on the other rear cage leg plate which i forgot about ages ago
And cleaned up the pillar repair with the wire brush ready for some zinga
And patched a little bit of shit on the tub, got to do a similar sized patch the other side to finish it tomorrow
Who said fitting cages was hard, i put this in practically upside down without breaking a sweat
And the middle legs, should be helpful to leemarkadams to compare with and also answer my own questions!
Does the 3rd mounting bolt go very close to the chassis rail or something as mine seems like its gonna be very close (you should be able to see the stitch weld penetration) and also what happens with the channel that will be under the plate, do you have to hammer the floor flat from the other side or can you use captive nuts and bridge the channel.....im thinking the plates got to be fully seamed which would rule that out
Which leaves the list like so:
Plate in tub
Outer bulkhead seams both sides (just o/s left)
Passenger a pillar repair (not as mad as the other side thank god!) ------ i lied
Fit inner wing upright strengtheners
Roll cage plates ---almost forgot them! (2 out of 6 done)
Front panel
Stone chip
Bare metal engine bay
Paint silver!!!
Topside
the sunroof hole
body prep
and shiny silver paint
Let me know when you have caught up Dave, so I can get on with mine again.
Why do you want to put the front panel on while on a jig anyway?
no problem dave will do, wont be much longer
And i want to get it on so that i can stonechip and spray all the back of it whilst im painting all the underside and engine bay on the jig Wont be hard, think il mod the jig to pick up on the xmember area as it will be covered by the xmember so doesnt matter if some of it doesnt get painted
And a lickle bit more for my fans out there. As my luck would have it rain stopped play today with the welder which was a kick in the balls as i wanted to get the rest of the main welding done, not to worry there will be other days. So i fixed the c/l on my gti as i busted it the other day messing about, then set to bare metalling the floors inside of the chassis rails, managed to get one side back and zinga'd up today before my wrists gave up Doesnt seem like much but we all know how long the shitty jobs take with the wire wheel on the grinder!
Midway
As much as i could take!
And a splash of zinga, off to buy the 4th tin now which should hopefully be the last one i need @ £20 a go
Which leaves
Underside
Finish wire brushing the rest of the floor section and zinga it up
Fit rear panel stoneguard/diffuser thing and make it bolt on
Work out what the bubbling is on the front bit of chassis where the bulkhead is, it'l be a plate for sure
Srape off stonechip from inner wings ----done a bit more!Plate in tub
Outer bulkhead seam o/s
Fit inner wing upright strengtheners
Roll cage plates ---almost forgot them! (2 out of 6 done)
Finish stitching the rear of one chassis rail
Cutout and redo previous repair under the jig bracket maybe
Front panel
Stone chip
Bare metal engine bay
Paint silver!!!
Topside
the sunroof hole
body prep
and shiny silver paint

An impressive burst of enthusiasm Dave.
excellent progressagain dave
Well done Dave. Bottom of the pillar nicely let in there. Good on ya for switching tack when rain stopped the fryin'.
looking good matey!! its not nice working outside is it, i know the feeling. top results tho fella!!!
And another update, this is probably more work than i have done in the last 6 months in these last few weeks
Stitched up the other bulkhead seam so thats another bit ticked off
Also removed some more stonechip, just a few hard to reach bits left and bare metal the lot ready for the zinga
Poked the bubble on the chassis rail!!! Told you it needed a plate
And kept chopping til i got all the shit out
Got bored so painted the pillar with zinga
And set to replicating the missing chunk of chassis
Plate made up
And spotted in place
Fully welded
And ground back
And then made up and stuck on the overlapping front section of chassis piece Looks much better and was more fun than id expected
Also stitched the bit i missed on the chassis rail one side at the rear and filled in the other side of the little bit on the tub lip
Potential weld of the week??
Ground them all off flushish and it looks proper bo
And started to grind back various welds around the car which had been waiting for a new flap pad thing for the grinder @ £6 each
Sill bottom edge
Splash panel to pillar lip
And the rear of the sill, also did some other bits but didnt get pics Anyway they are all painted up with zinga and looking good
And finally, thinking of getting another arch and letting a bit in to replace the pinholed crap thats in the middle of the arch
Leaving:
Plate in tub
Outer bulkhead seam o/s
Fit inner wing upright strengtheners
Roll cage plates ---almost forgot them! (2 out of 6 done)
Finish stitching the rear of both chassis rails
Cutout and redo previous repair under the jig bracket maybe
Front panel
Stone chip
Bare metal engine bay
Paint silver!!!
Topside
the sunroof hole
body prep
and shiny silver paint
Enjoy fans

Brilliant dave
You are turning out a very profesionally re built motor mate Nice one.
Is there anything left of the original car?
Well done mate
very nice dave, still looking shit hot flipmode
Cheers boys can always rely on you lot for keeping me interested with it!!
Matt, are you sure! professional is a posh term!! Although i guess it could be classed as that as i take my time and try to do every plate as best as i can so that it looks somewhat original and not a hacked about plated up mess that it is and so many others are!! Dave your right mate there isnt a lot of original car left, i think im right in saying that every panel has/will have had welding and filler
And pig...flipmode is the greatest
Next up i think is rollcage plates and finishing the inner wing and other side of floor stripping and getting it zinga'd Started making the cage plates today, no pics as im only halfway before i had to go out for the afternoon maybe some tomorrow and some 3 and 5 bolt cage main hoop plate/feet questions
Can you polish this zinga stuff?
Looking awesome Brokeback.
Looking real good Dave and not a plated up mess, as you put it. Your skills have come a long way since your first attempts at repairing this car. I am in agreement with what Danny says, some very professional looking work there you should be proud of yourself. Now get it finished and fill all the cavities with something to stop this car from continueing to digest itself from the inside out .
