Now where have I seen that lot before?????????
Now where have I seen that lot before?????????
I wonder
Looking good
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm tasty mk2, shame your gonna race it as we all know what happens to race cars , but im sure you will atke care of it
If you keep it in that colour it wil be a dave part 2 escort
The colour will be changing Kev! I've got most of his car as it was anyway... engine, brakes, arches...
As for racing.. that's not been decided as yet, but it's good that the car will be suitable if I do decide to go for it!
Looking very very nice Mark, dont forget that I still have shares in it, looks like I may have to borrow it if mine gathers any more dust
Top work Gary

I doubt there's much danger of that!
As for the shares... I'll have to put it to the board as it appears you no longer have controlling interest :p
P.S. - that must mean I have bought shares in yours then?
Anyone want shares in mine? If so they can share the bits that keep breaking.
Getting back into to Marks car, the first thing i've gotta do is carry on taking the wrapping off the cage...... so maybe thursday or friday i'll be putting it in
looks like xmas has come early for you gary
I hate that wrapping... the bubble wrap is bad enough, but then you have the heat glued polyethelene under that
Blame Claire mate!! nothign to do with me!
Nope i'm blaming you, you bought it ........Originally Posted by markb_s1

oh.. that's a point... so i did... I wonder whose idea that was?Originally Posted by retromotorsport
wasnt me... i hate fitting bolt in cages, you cant weld yourself into them and thats the only blessing... 14 pointers are never easy as with most cages only 3 points line up. And its always the same points that dont line up, so the old answer " your car is outta shape " is ******** As its unlikely that all the cars are out in the same places, much more like the jig is out.Originally Posted by markb_s1
Anyways after much its in..... just got to do all the fixings now, then take it out, weld up, and refit.
Why is it that most 14 point cages go body colour?
'Cos once the fitters put it back in the owners aint taking it out again
dint realize you could buy the cage with the x could have saved you the trouble
Only on the mk2 cages Al .... rules and regs for the rally boys and the fact that Tony Fall said there is no call for a turret mount Mk1 cage
Racers have always had to mod the Mk1 cage, makes me so
Ok there may be 10 rally cars running to Hysterical regs (Historic Regs) to every Mk1 racecar, but even so you would think they could do one more jig
Sorry Gary... I thought my car was pretty much in shape with one possible exception... :o
Crossbrace looking good though You're right it probably won't be coming out again but I am tempted to go through the laborious masking process to have it a different colour!
P.S. Gary - that looks full on race prepped with the cage in!!
i think once painted it won't be long before it sees some action!

Mark, you and Dave will be able to pull the cage out easilly enough, and put it back in with time and care not to scratch it, in about the same time as it takes to mask it up.
The only hard bit is the tubs, you will need to cover them in a sheet of card (cornflake packet) and the 2 rubbing strips of steel that the rear stays can run up, the rest just squeezes in, easy enough with two of you doing it
you hear that Dave? Looks like you just volunteered!!!
Thanks Gary... yet to be decided but it's worth bearing in mind!
I take it thats me dave? cheers gary

You bitch :hugh:
Its ok mark as long as i dont lose half my hand and bleed all over your car like i did the last time i helped fit a cage for my mate its ok Ive fitted 4 now so it should be a walk in the park, especially as all the mounts are made up
Any ideas when shes coming home so i can drool over the work of art youve had installed inside?
Nice! were they 14 point though?
Patience David! All good things come to those who wait.... no rush ! I'll let you know as soon as it's back so you can come and have a looky!
Behave just plain old cack ones, plus the one i bled for we still havnt got round to bolting the front to the floor
Hurry up tho there cant be much left for gary to do to it now surely?? unless you got more tricks up your sleeve!? yea let me know i wanna spunk on it :p
Ps do you still have the spotweld drill bit, if so its now mine also you got any weld through primer for me to steal? i got a new friend for my car and need to get the old 1/4 off
no more tricks dave. honest.
still got the drill bits, yes.. not sure about the primer though. i'll have a look.
Cool when can i come and nick it
time for an update.. all systems go at Retromotorsport as ever...
as you can see from the pics, the dunnell mounts didn't quite fit properly on my crossmember so Gary made some new ones... which i think are much nicer!!
plus he's finished the exhaust tunnel and made a top notch gearbox crossmember
Looking good,i like those gearbox x members
So do I!! well impressed
