    Back in the lock-up !

    Thanks guys !

No I couldn't find much in the way of MKII Escort blueprints. I'm popping home at Christmas - I'll look through the old documents I have (Ford garage in the family for years). If anybody has any MKII Escort plans/blueprints I'd love to get a copy !

Robrs2 : Do you mean making something inside the glass !! I have no idea what data they use .... but that would be cool

I have already created a few hi-res test prints now of the car and they look great Just finding somewhere that can print at the quality I want ...

Here is a tiny look at what I am doing now - placing it back in the lock-up I made. Still experimenting with the lighting and colour balance :

This one has had a bit of noise added - 3d computers are sometimes too "clean"

Re: Back in the lock-up !

Almost ready to take orders then

Just a few little things again The windscreen...think it needs to be a bit wider as i can see lots of white of the pillar between the rubber and the gutter rail. Seem to remember on my escort i couldnt even get the sponge in there to clean it so it was all surface rusty from the cack respray it had before.

Also did you finish off the door handle dimple thing? Cos i know you made it simple just so it was there but did it get finalised????

Top work man, cant wait to order one

    Warm lock-up

    Thanks Dave !

Again you have a good eye for the details ! I'l see if I can tweak that slightly.

I have been playing with the lighting in the lockup and have acheived what I was after. I wanted a scene where there is a strong light (sun) coming into the garage, but also a "kick" from the light hitting the back wall, and flooding a warm colour from the bricks.

I want a natural light in this scene as opposed to the studio lighting in the other images I have made. I'm getting there Here is a test image of what I have acheived :

    General.

Dave, just caught up with the thread after a couple of weeks off, moving to the Isle of Man - well done mate - the Mark 1 Looks great, love the efforts on the Anglia and that super MK2 sketch, Just had to download the pic of the black mex with red stripes ( after all my pestering for more pics of the black with blue (now you've got me wondering!!! Will merlin be black in the next incarnation with red or blue mexicals? - definately not the white though!) Agree with earlier comment about splitting the thread though - this one is starting to get difficult to manage! took me 10 mins to track back to page 14 where I last knew where we were!. Finish of the mark 1 and re thread or request/start new threads on spin off comments. Also another observation - everyone wants you to do "this" how about one of "them" or why not do "that" - Your gonna spread yerself thin matey unless you start going commercial and start charging! A talent likes yours should be nurtured and appreciated, not abused.
Anyway - just my observing comments - keep up the gobsmacking work!
    Ade.

    Re: RS Mexico

I'm doing some serious investigating of printing options at the moment.

So far discovered that my Business Inkjet is NOT up to the standards I want. I'm getting a test image printed on a few other models. Been chatting to some experts on the subject. They are impressed with the resolution of the images I have created and said that it would be very expensive to get the same image done by photography. A few even thought it was a real studio photo !!

So that is the actual quality of print-out I want.

To date I haven't earned a penny from this. All been for fun - but I have gained a hell of an experience. And met a lot of enthusiasts !

I am hoping that when I get a print out that I am happy with, and with the feedback I have received here and other sites, that I can sell a few to others.

My Brother already wants a batch to sell through his Garage

    FREE Print-out. 1 only.

    Ok Guys.

I have a hi-res A4 printout of the MK1 (shown below) on high-quality paper at 360 DPi. It is a test printout. (I'm VERY fussy - I am not happy with the slight dithering in the gradient background BUT it is still a good image).

    What I offer is this.

If you would like this test printout - I'll mail it to you absolutely free. All I ask is that you have contributed to this thread before, and that you give me some feedback here about the quality and resolution of the image.

I'll bang it in the post today to the first person who sends me a PM with their address.

I only have 1 copy at the moment.

    Dave

    Hi Dave.

How big is the file you are printing?? (A4 360dpi)

I am wondering if you could get someone to host it so we could all have one.

Re thoughts about inkjet quality. Try taking a file to somewhere that has a Fuji Frontier machine (I think some Jessops have them) and get a print made. These machines use lasers to write the image onto proper photographic paper.

You wont see a pixel in sight .

Right ! I'll try that ... I'm back in the Uk in a few days

I'll bring my laptop and take a copy on a memory stick to test.

The file is about 32 Mbs un-compressed.

I'd love to offer it to everyone, but then who would buy a copy from me ??

If you are in the UK in June this year come to the AVO National Day with some samples.

I'd bet you wouldn't get away all day for people wanting to place orders, especially if you were willing to take personalised orders for colour, number plates etc.

Just price them to make it worthwhile for you to do.

I've been a bit slow on the uptake and only just seen these threads! Sorry!

I think they look superb and you should sell the images as said above. I guess it depends on how much it would cost you to produce these to a high standard but I am sure most owners would like a personalised one of their car! Maybe even an image of cars past that they no-longer own or have been scrapped?

Keep up the good work and put my name down on the list for an Olympic Blue one!

Yes definately take orders, i think you could print it for £3 on wicked paper with a really good printer and easily sell them for £10 if personalised as whats £10 for something that is unique to you and your car??? A lot of money to be made i think...no way should you let it out for free as you have spent all this time doing it

Maybe a discount to all those that have helped tho eh

TBH I think £20-30 would be nearer the mark.

How many really quite pictures of RS Fords and Escorts in particular are there flying about. I am thinking particulalry of the line drawing type. The car is obviously and Escort but the proportions are not quite right.

These models are I would have to say perfect. I looked at the lastest render Dave posted and was not at all surprised some people thought it was a studio shot.

Life in the old girl yet :)

    Thanks Guys,

Willid1 : I very much hope that in 2005 I will be able to visit either the AVO or RSOC national days.

I have been busy investigating printing. While it is possible to do a print out for about 5 pounds it would look like some kid's homework, not bad - but the pictures I render have lots of details. So I have been enquiring from some print buros about high-quality photo prints. In both A4 and A3 size. I want something that is very good quality. I'm doing this because I, too, want a print And I want something I can be proud of hanging on my wall.

I am having a friend at a large magazine in Zurich make a few proof prints on their mega-expensive printers

I have seen that print of a drawing that is offered on Ebay. I will be offering something different. You will get a full quality print-out. Not a print-out of a scan. And also the chance to get it customised so that it suits you. It also took about half a year to get to this stage !

I have had a look around at what is offered and I believe that with the correct high quality it is something that will sell at a fair price.

I spent a little time this weekend palying with the lighting in my scene and adjusting the glass, so that it is as realistic as possible :

Re: Life in the old girl yet :)

Dave, the shots are looking totally awesome now - I agree with your words above - with such quality in the render you need to reflect that in the printing - otherwise all your hard work is for nothing! The customised shots are going to be on high demand - I've figured the reason as well - all of us who have our cars probably have hundreds of photo's - loads of posters in the garage etc etc - but there is nothing that could represent our own car in a "perfect" condition (even better than when it left the factory 30yrs ago!) Your pictures give us the oppurtunity and inspiration to have our cars shown how they could look in the pefect world - no rust, no dents, no dinks, no flat colours, no dirt - every panel lining up etc etc - it's what every classic fan could ever what - there a a few cars out there that a total nut&bolt resto's that come close to the mark - but for everyone else we all know where every imperfection is! I for one will be more than happy to have "merlin" represented in your format and will gladly pay the price required. I've got loads of photo's, posters, pictures etc but not ONE of them could show my car how it would look "perfick"... keep up the sterling work - you will go to car heaven and hopefully you'll take a few bob with ya!
    Ade.
