1.6 Upgrade
At the moment I have a 1.3 Mk2 on the standard 4speed box. If I upgraded to the 1.6 xflow, is it ok to keep the standard box? I want a nice and painless engine swap, like with the 1.1 to 1.3.
Also what top end speed would I get out of it?

Re: 1.6 Upgrade
top speed will go up slightly as the bigger engine will pull higher revs in top, but a 1300 box dont last long on a 1600, better off getting the box as well and swopping the two at the same time.

Re: 1.6 Upgrade
Fair enough.
I doubt it will happen any time soon anyway. It's not very easy for a 17yr old to get insured on a 1.6!!!
Thanks

Re: 1.6 Upgrade
The 16 xflow block is one inch taller at the water pump compared to the 13. I'm sure that the non sport 13 and 16 gearboxes are the same... both rubbish and very breakable The 16 exhaust downpipe is longer to accomodate the taller block. The 13 and 16 inlet manifolds are different. the 16 inlet bends down so the carb don't hit the bonnet (i'm talking twin choke carb here)
Hope this helps

Re: 1.6 Upgrade
When you find out your gearbox ratios, rpm / power limit, tyre sizes etc you can use this Gear Calc to work out you top speed (roughly)
If you are still using your 1100 diff it will be quick 0-60 but rev it's nuts off at higher speeds. Depends on what you want really !

Re: 1.6 Upgrade
I've downloaded that Gear Calc program...but...
Whats the RPM limit of my 1.3 crossflow? (I don't have a rev counter!)
And what is the name of the gearbox I have from that list that is provided in the program? (The car was originally a 1.1 - so its the gear box that came with that!)
Thanks
