    Lotus twin cam engines

Would just like some info on these engines as they seem to have (or i have found) very little info.

PS. would a lotus twin cam head fit unto a 711M 1300xlfow.

I'm just Trying to make a decent 1300cc xflow.

Yes you would be able to bolt it on BUT the water pump/chaincase on the front of the engine would be too tall.

Fitting this head to a 1600 711M x flow is a common modification (needs a spacer on top of the water pump) but have no idea how you would build a 1300 one.

Quoted capacity for a standard Twin cam is 1558cc

They were built on Cortina 1500 bottom ends (with a few modifications).

So 1500 cc plus the hemispherical combustion chambers gave 1558cc.

If you have very deep pockets you can build them up to around 2.0, but there are cheaper ways to get that much horsepower.

Just out of interest was the head you were looking at for twin Webers of twin Strombergs??

1558cc is engine stroke capacity and do not include combustion chamber capacities.
twincam had 82,55mm bore and 72,75mm stroke

Now I remember, they used special thick / graded block as gave them a slight overbore.

So do manufacturers never take into account the combustion chamber volume when quoting capacity??

Suppose that's why they call it "swept capacity"

i thought the yanks measured the full combustion chamber volume, while everyone else only measured swept volume, and thats why you couldnt convert ci's directly into cc's.

least thats the way it was when they were building muscle cars.

Weber heads are the best ones, although some people out there do convert the stromberg heads to take webers. As for the block im not sure, wouldnt have thought a lot more. The block for them is called the "L" block and i think it has the L cast into it somewhere. And for the crossflow bottom end application you can buy the taller frontcover (waterpump housing) but its a lot of money and a lot of hassle to convert it....but it can be done
