Re: The Goon - Returns Home - Inc Build Up - Updated 15 -05

I have been busy but it dosnt show much on the car, I am not going to have my engine ready in time so decided to build up a spare 350 bhp one to get it on the road, I am going to use all the good bits around it so when the planned engine is ready its a simple tall engine swap over.

I have finished the bottom end and have finished porting the head today so will try and get the head finished by next weekend.

The grearbox was modified a little more, I had to turn down the input shaft to 15mm so it would fit the cossie spiggot, we also measured up for the clutch, just need to special order a couple of plates now from AP.

I am hoping to finish the car loom tommorow and test the lights and MOTable equipment, then I am going to make a start on the cars management loom, then the dash loom, then the cars auxillery items will need a loom making.

A big thanks to Willid for sorting me out a few parts this week

Mr Hoarder has volenteered to trailer it to CF Show so I will be on a mission to get the car as far as I can cosmetically for showing.

I need to borrow some fat wheels though... anyone ?????

Heres a few pics of the gearbox and a few other bits:

I am afraid Not, its still only a bottom end, the worse thing is that I have also changed my mind about the pistons so am going to strip and rebuild it before it goes in the car, My target is for it to be running by the end of Febuary so watch this space.

Re: The Goon - New Engine

I am looking forward to the rest of the build as you have nailed exactly the same spec engine I want to build for my Escort. 500hp and high revs. I had thought about having the redline at 8000rpm but that's still pretty high. What sort of turbo are you planning and what compression ratio ? I was thinking about a Garrett GT30-something and 7.5:1.

Not 100% sure yet panza, My current thinking is taken me below 7:0:1 Compression, As I am building it for top speed runs and road use I am not going to be worring about throttle response too much, however my gearing will help a lot I am running 23.5 inch tyres and a 4.66:1 CWP.

Re: The Goon - New Engine

Oh.. That low. I am a bit more concerned about lag and driveability I guess. I would like to keep the lag at the same level as with my current T34. I'm not sure if that is doable though ?
In an ideal world it would be nice to keep the compression ratio at the original 8:1 but I'm sure there is something that stops that from happening when going for 500hp..
