Whats i called when gauges redline on ignition ?
Hello just a quick question on behalf of a friend. On modern cars ( especially to sports), When the ignition is turned all the gauges red line before the ignition is turned why is this and how is it done as ive seen this mod done on cars that don't have it as standard. Is it a special kit any info would be a help as cant find much about it on the internet
Also the name of this system cheers
At least we stole the show...

Needle sweeping. I think some cars just do it from standard. Don't know if you can buy a kit for it. Oh, obviously you have to have an electronic speedo so you can't do it on an old school speedo cabled car!

True - modern speedos and tacho's are moved by electric stepper motors or similar electro-mechanical devices - basically for better accuracy and absence of needle shake. Lot of work to adapt an old-skool cable / moving coil type drive .

I also think they do it so that you can make sure the gauge is working but not 100% sure though
