De-Cambered Springs

I`ve heard the term used used a lot.
I dont really know what it involves.
I want to get the back of my mk2 lowered about 6inch (from standard ride height) I have 2 inch blocks on at the moment,
but it needs to go another 4...
So... Is this possible?
Where do i buy these springs from, or where do i go to get
mine "Sorted"
So one gunna tell me to get it 4 linked and fit coil overs...
Yes, i would love to, but i dont really wa nt to spend that sort
of money...
OR
Is that my only option?

Cheers.

to get them decambered Mark

check you local yellow pages for leaf spring manufacturers and they will be able to do it, my local firm 20 miles away does them for £10 the pair all they do is put the spring in a big hydraulic press and inch by inch take the take the bend out , this is on single leafs, multis take alot more work and time

Re: De-Cambered Springs

Cheers Brian...
Thats a bit far from me, but i`ll see if i can get
some one else closer to take a look

They are single leafs btw...

Would doing this alter the amount of spring they have? Make
them firmer or softer?

Re: De-Cambered Springs

Gartrac do them, its best to get a pair of new ones done so they end up exactly the same, you only really want 1" blocks too.

Re: De-Cambered Springs

So will they still be as stiff?

I bet you can 8 link the car for the price Gartrac charge for
their springs...

Isn`t it better to have NO lowering blocks?

Re: De-Cambered Springs

I'm still thinking of the chassis rail to axle interference fit... 6" drop? that would fit the axle against the chassis rails, so dont worry about de-cambering the springs, just weld the axle to the chassis rails...

Being serious, can you measure what gap you have between the top of the axle and the chassis rail, as a standard escort only has around 6" between them and if you allready have a 2" drop then you should have 4" inches of clearence. Going another 2" is the max drop but could cause some scary moment as the suspension goes solid

Re: De-Cambered Springs

Price aint too bad then...

Thought there was a good 6" clearance between axle and
chassis Gary (with the 2" blocks fitted)

Hmmm... I`ll have to have another look...

How much would you charge to weld the axle to the chassis???

So you dont think 2" is enough travel for the back axle to
move?

Re: De-Cambered Springs

Try it, you can always swop the blocks over for smaller ones.

Re: De-Cambered Springs

Don't mean to hi-jack but what is recommended for fast road use?? 116 or 146lbs??

& what's involved in fitting Mk2 leafs to a Mk1 - Will wider shackles for the spring fit the Mk1 chassis??
