    MERLIN

I have decided that I am crap with photos/uploads/jpegs/internets/urls/bbcode ETC ETC
Strange for a guy that 3 years ago was a computer consultant! Now I wonder why I got made redundant!

Anyway - I have uploaded a photo of Merlin. If I every figure out how to do these things properly I may try uploading more!
Since the photo last month a pair of rally giants have been added under the SuperCibies and the covers for all 4 are off --- looks MUCH better, even though I think it looks the nuts anyway. (But then I'm biased of course)

    Very Nice car pal.
Just wondering how your bonnet is fastened at the bulkhead end, as i cant see any hinges?? I see the pins at the front, but no fastening at the back?

    Re: MERLIN

AHA - good question, basically due to a moment of err forgetfulness yours truly checked water & oil etc and then headed of into the sunrise, about 60mph 2 miles away from home - old bonnet decides to become very quickly initimate with the windscreen and roof! Forgot to put the pins in! DOH! Anyway no damage to screen or roof thank god but old bonnet and hinges were crumpled to buggery. had the bulkhead redone - without hinges and a new bonnet supplied - there are two prongs welded to the rear of the bonnet that slot into two holes in the bulkhead, with gommets so it doesn't rattle. Works well - solid as a rock and doesn't have to have the corner gussets that you see on some cars (very unsightly methinks!) - I will take a couple of pics and post them up....

    Ade.

Bamma, couple of pics showing the rear bonnet pins etc...

That's just the driver side one - there is of course matching hole and pin on the nearside.

    Re: MERLIN

Aah i see! Nice idea mate.

Thats a coincidence.. The reason i asked was because the same accident happened to me a few weeks ago and my new bonnet has never sat straight since! I also have a white & blue Mk1 (RS2000 cossie).
I managed to slam on the brakes in time at about 45mph, so it didnt do too much damage to the bulkhead, but my bonnet folded in half and the hinges were fooked. I'm absolutely gutted cos my bonnet had cossie vents in it and they cost a fortune to fit!

It now has a green bonnet and is tied on with zipties and shoelaces... I'll look into doing the same trick as you've done when i get round to sorting & painting it.

    Cheers for the advice mate

Wish I knew where they came from! I've been looking around for another pair of mirrors, as mine are getting a bit pitted and I've never seen any like mine so far.... ???

    Re: MERLIN

It works - but can be a bit of a pain when you've got a sore back and lifting the bonnet off/on etc! Still if I had put the pins in in the first place i'd still have brackets!!!

    Re: MERLIN

unfortunately yes! tis the bane of my life that "dashboard"!!! Hope to get the whole car rewired soon and get a new dash so that it at least looks like a car rather than a bodged up half effort! Took delivery of an ally centre console this morning so the plan is in progress - all be it around 3 years late!!!
