    Zetec on Twin choke?

Hi. I'm new to the Forum & have been mulling over transplanting a 1.8 Zetec into my F reg XR2.
I don't really want to go down the EFI route because of the wiring complications and especially the hassle of fitting a swirl potted fuel tank (Fiesta Centre?), HP pump etc. So I was wondering if I could use a CVH inlet manifold with a downdraft twin choke Weber, not the std TDLM but the earlier DFT or DATR/DMTR. I understand that the the RS Turbo inlet will fit the Zetec Head so I guess that the CVH carb manifold will too?
As far as ignition is concerned I believe that the EDIS unit from a dizzyless CVH does the trick?

What do you think, guys? Is this feasible or would it be better to bite the bullet on drag myself into the 21st century with the complete Zetec EFI set up?

    Cheers
    Bob.

You can do it if you are clever enough, you can also go to twin 40s as well. I would think that fitting the engine with original EFI would be no more difficult and give better gains. You don't need to have a swirl pot at all for road use. If you are worried about the fuel pump getting starved when you go around corners then keep the tank at least half full at all times. Or make a simple catch tank out of some 1" pipe with the ends capped off and an 8mm tube in each end. Plum this so it fills by gravity, then a fuel filter, then the fuel pump. If you go EFI you can bin the cat and use the rover turbo manifold which is better than the ford one.

You are right about getting the ECU from the dizzy less CVH, it does work but won't be as good as fitting an aftermarket ECU.

I believe that zefect on here has used a twin choke carb on a modified cvh manifold so it can definately be done. Its in a 100e pop and is a very neat install too. Probably only putting out standard power though but thats still better than a cvh can manage. Probably best to pm him and ask.

Mr zefects computer is still out of action i think so maybe this will help....
Rchambers is right, the zefect runs a twin choke, its a dgas carb from a 3.0 capri on a cvh manifold which bolts to an adapter plate to fit the zetec head (adapter plate comes from retro dave)
The inlet manifold has to have the ports opened up to match the zetec ports (they are in the same position but a totally different shape)& this was done by bolting up the adaptor plate and carefully grinding the inlet ports till they are the same shape.
Ignition side is from a fiesta/escort hcs.
Certainly a good way of getting the car up & running if youre on a budget & can source the bits from a scrappy
i can assure you the car flies incidentally the pics are here http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showf...0&fpart=all
