    zetec exhaust manifolds

whats the difference in the science behind 4:2:1 and 4:1 manifolds - i.e. whats the pro's and cons of each type? which would be better to get.

A 4-1 manifold is supposed to have a higher power output but at the expense of mid-range torque. A 4-2-1 manifold has great mid-range torque and good maximum power. In Practical Performance Car they tested both and they gave the same max power but the 4-2-1 had the better mid-range torque. Go with a 4-2-1 manifold if I were you.

But its even easier to use the cvh manifold if you want to turbo it or even the crappy cast one it uses as standard

aiiii.. but then you're liable to run into problems at 300bhp... and who wants to stop there????

In a FWD car I expect most people would stop there. The rest will end up in a bush after losing the fight with torque steer

ok thats what i wanted to know, the 4:2:1 will be what i get.

i've just ordered some nice cams for it, which is nice.

early part of next year i was thinking of putting on this supercharger thingy. i have found it for £1300 and can fit it myself. it gives 60bhp. so with the other mods and the manifold, bigger injectors, better MAF, chip, etc i will be in the region of 220bhp. dunno if i will still want to run NOS on it aswell, might as well for a laugh!

You might be pushing it adding nitrous to that lot . I think 220bhp is the max I would want to run with standard internals. After that you want to start looking at uprating stuff like crank, rods and pistons. A set of ARP rod bolts would be a first good step as this is the weakest part of the zetec. Your car will be quite a handful when its all done, have fun
