Re: Cossie Mk1 Cortina from Oz

    Hi Guys,

The arm is now healed as good as it ever will...I have slowed down on the down hills, though I've been training hard to start road racing and should have my first race any week now

And as of last week...there is a rumour circulating that the port work is finally under way and we may see a completed head this side of christmas!! Must be 6 or 7 years now since the old girl has purred like a kitten!!

    Cheers,

    Phil.

Re: Cossie Mk1 Cortina from Oz

    Good day
I really hope you can help me with the conversion you did to the steering on your Mk 1
i am from south Africa and can no longer get ball joints for the 3 Mk 1 cortina and 100e that my self and my family drive every day
the cars have been in the family from before i was born
i can see the cross member and the rack if you can help with a bit more detail on what you did with the steering arm to take the escort ball joint and what you did at the top of the strut
and did you use a escort steering column

i would really appriate your help just to keep our cars going
we dnt own new car just never needed them

    regards Anthony Rix

Re: Cossie Mk1 Cortina from Oz

you will have to look at some pics he posted up on page 7 or 8 here , for more pics showing detail and close ups plus some explanation look up his postings on other car forums on aussie and kiwi sites ,he has answered several questions as well on them ,but this was built sometime ago , hence no updated replies. He machined up inserts to fit into the bottom ends of the mk1 cortina strut steering arm , these have the correct taper machined in to suit the escort track control arm ball joint and bolt up into, its not a modification solution if you want to keep your standard cortina mk1 steering set up. You have to combine it with a conversion over to rack steering and make a few other mods to make the combination work in a mk1 cortina , cant advise as much for the 100 e but its a conversion that also needs quite a few other mods to make the whole thing work.

Re: Cossie Mk1 Cortina from Oz

    Hi Phil,

I'm just looking at your steering conversion and wondered if its an escort mk2 crossmember and TCA's?

My main issues are: How did you get the Cortina's Steering Arm mounted on the Mk2's TCA?

What Top Mounts did you use?

My Cortina has a pair of Brand New Front Struts with Uprated Inserts and Springs fitted so i would like to keep these but obviously they dont fit the escorts TCA!

Can you help? Have you any pics as I can only find the pic of all the front end built up and painted in grey lookin cool as But no particular details..

I'm very competent and have access to tools and machining!

I just cant pay £1000 for a steering kit

    Cheers mate,
    Pete.
