Hey all, anyone know of this car and possibly the owner, says in one of the questions and answers it was the first RS to have a 5speed........Just wondering about the history, cheers. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=907600248

I have to say that the advert sounds like a load of 'pub talk' to me. First car in the UK to have a 5 speed in the 80's, but says it has a MT75, rather than a Type 9? I don't think the MT75 was released then. Also 147mph top speed and a 185bhp 2.2 Burton Pinto?
147 was perfectly feasable back in the day,185/60/13 on a 3.54 diff with a 0.85 top gear, the only thing was you needed a long bit of road and the wind resistance was a bit of a challange, then the doors started to vibrate and get sucked out
True - my standard one back in 1982 had 126 'on the clock' flat out down the M3 a few times so tuned motor easy to 'see' 148! LOL
Lol , I love pub talk.
Thanks for the replies guys, ok so 147mph is feasible then so thats good to hear! I have asked for the chassis number, so if i post it is anyone able to see the history of the RS or do you need more info for that?
a std rs on 175/70 and 3.54 diff would need to be pulling over 6500 rpm in top gear at 125mph they wont pull that in 3rd most days
with a .825 overdrive 5th gear then thats 150 at the 6500 rpm mark in 5th.
essentially you need enough power to pull flat out in top gear. not many do .................................
given a long enough road i'd say its just possible, back in the day on a deserted motorway in the middle of the night, my rs with only about 145 bhp would wind its way upto over 7k in top gear.
these days you wouldnt risk flat out for ten miles or so though..........................
it is possible, been there got the tshirt,it is easier to get there if your mate has a 911 turbo and is in front but when you pull out a mk2 isnt very stable at these speeds, also remember that not all 175 bhp pintos are equal
To do 147 true mph in a Mk2 RS2 you need approx. 260 bhp.
I wouldnt like to do 120 in mine
Never mind near on 150

its back for sale again
147 in an Escort would be pretty scary.
the doors get sucked out a bit,147 is tame, scrote and the other lad with the flat front were doing close to 170 at test track
