MK2 Escort Race car
I am absolutley gutted to have to sell but a business venture requires me to part with my dream escort.
MK2 Escort Thundersaloon:
- Rolling Shell.
Was originally campaigned in the British Thundersalon series in the late 80's and has been pampered ever since.
Restored lovingly over the last 2.5 years with fresh paint (Ermine White) on the outside and freshly blacked underneath.
All bodyshell components have been powder coated.
Full Spec:
Bodyshell:
Ultra-Lightweight race car whilst still retaining the original ford chassis and floorpan.
Full race specification by Milton Racing with very deep link boxes (for race height), 6 point FIA Safety Devices roll cage with door bars.
(No off the shelf chassis components here, all made for the car).
Bulkhead modified to accomodate engine 8-9" further back in the car to aid weight distribution.
Front half of the inner wings removed to remove weight.
Full fibreglass Thundersaloon body.
Front-end - (one piece, non removable currently)
Fibreglass rear quarter panels with large thundersaloon arches.
VERY RARE boot/rear wing (I have not seen another of these on any car that currently exists (check old thundersaloon pics and footage).
Alloy boot floor with provision for underslung fuel tank.
Custom strut brace tagged into the bulkhead.
Milton front and rear adjustable anti-roll bars with drop link bars onto custom Milton track-contrl arms.
Rose jointed throughout including steering rack.
Chassis mounts welded into place to accept N/A Cosworth Engine.
Large gearbox tunnel, custom dash.
Suspension:
Gaz Gold 2.5" coilovers all round (alloy rears)
800lb springs - front, 600lb rear.
Fully adjustable, custom track control arms with drop link kit and compression strut system.
5 - linked rear end with custom link boxes, turrets and panard rod.
Fully adjustable anti roll bars.
Axle:
English axle with 4.1 cwp, Tranx plate LSD, 16 tooth side gears (Atlas) and quaife 2-piece shafts to suit (all new).
Brakes:
Billet AP Racing calipers with 280mm floating discs on Alloy hubs and long studs.
Disc on rear.
Wheels:
Genuine, Magnesium BBS E50's.
Currently 9x16" on the front with 10x16" on the rear.
The car is sold with a large selection of genuine BBS rim halves. My plan was to run the 7" outer dishes on the rear making 12" wide rear wheels.
Slick tyres with OK tread all round (not new).
Overview:
This car was to be completed using a N/A Cosworth engine I have commisioned to be built for me (soon to be available).
The engine will be offered to the prospective buyer:
Spec is as follows:
Arrow crank and connecting Rods
Cosworth Forged Pistons
Big Valve cylinder head with titanium valves
Race camshafts
Slide Throttle injection system
Pectel ECU
PACE Dry Sump System
I can also supply a newly refreshed Quaife type 9 dog Box - with an alloy maincase.
The car requires the interior to be finished/painted.
A pedal box will need to be sourced and fitted.
I estimate that the car would weigh significantly less then 800Kg when completed, a true lightweight racer with one-of-a kind looks.
The price for the rolling shell as above is 18K, no messing around, I have it up for more elsewhere.
Engine and box available seperatley.
Please call Sam on 07952 656046 for more info or to request more pictures.
Cheers.

On the upside its a unique opportunity for someone to buy an authentic car from an amazing era of racing. Good luck with the sale.

Re: MK2 Escort Race car
Shame you can't make some fibreglass moulds of all the panels etc before it sells, bet they'd sell well,
Lovely looking car

Re: MK2 Escort Race car
That looks like an ex Tim Swadkin /John Deveraux car that was sold to Paul Sherlock who campaigned it with Robert Bridger in IMEX colours late 80's thunder saloons.
Although many alterations have been carried out since By the look of things.

Re: MK2 Escort Race car
Glad you like it Ad.
For me the car was always about real old skool/period looks and general vibe.
People were always trying to convince me to for instance paint the interior and engine bay anthracite or gun metal grey.... NO! the car is period. If you look at the classic racers like the broadspeed or zakspeed cars, the interiors were not anthracite, it was satin black all the way!
I think that people put too much emphasis on modernising these classics with new engines, paint schemes or over engineering the fabrication with miles and miles on roll cage etc. This is a simple classic, just the way things WERE!!!
The whole multi-bar climbing frame roll cage and anthracite paint jobs were a product of the later touring cars NOT 70's racers!
Rant over! lol
The car would be eligible for the CSCC Special Saloons and many others im sure.
