Thanks for the kind comments The car is not finished yet, that last pic is a photoshop. The damage is repaired (thanks Gary ) and I should have it back soon ready to build up the supercharged zetec, fit the zakspeed arches and paint it. Aiming to finish for April but we will see. Will post build pics of the zetec in this thread and the rest of the car build will be continued in the Restos section.

hi fella, engine will be going into a mk1 escort. The ST170 mounts can be bought for mk1, so not worried about those, will be running throttle bodies, not sure if bike ones or not, as I have heard mixed reviews! Management I am undecided on possibly emerald. The things that bother me are the plumbing of the water pipes, what radiators do people use? and I want to keep the heater which seems to be a issue. Also not sure what happens with the gearbox.

    Re: Zetec Install

The answers to all those questions are in this section already so I won't answer them here. With the Retro Ford mounts its hard to get enough tilt on the engine to get the heater pipes on but you can modify the heater matrix to make it fit (pics are about in this section somewhere) Emerald is a good ECU as it can control the vvt.

I binned the heater on mine and fitted two 12v electric heaters I got from Finland, hopefully they will warm the car a little as well as demist

    That is a camshaft sensor.
If you are going for a aftermarket ecu(like you gonna do on throttle bodies) you don't need that one .

Although if you want to run sequential injection rather than semi sequential or batch you will need to wire it up.

    Re: Zetec Install

The only real option is to drill and tap the water rail next to the ford sensor for your ecu sensor. Either that or drill and tap the head. I never got round to it first time around but this time I'll be taking the first option.

Fit it on your ground plate of your airfilters between the middle 2 throttle bodies.
    That should do.
At least i did with DTA or KMS ecu and jenvey throttle bodies.

    Thin air

And yes air temp sensor anywhere near the throttle bodies inlet. In the airbox if you run one. TBH you don't really need one on an N/A car.

I take it that the fuel regulator you used is a cosworth one?

Is there any other regulators that I could use with a ST170 Fuel Rail?

    Thanks

I believe the standard blacktop fuel regulator bolts to the end of the ST170 fuel rail, or you can fit the entire normal blacktop fuel rail. Its only the ST170 that uses a return-less system but I didn't know this when I did mine

    Re: Zetec Install

I don't know for sure. Best bet is to buy a whole blacktop fuel rail with injectors and everything from scrappy and then you can mix and match parts (personally I'd use the ST170 injectors with the normal blacktop fuel rail).

I had to weld a barbed fitting to the end of the ST170 manifold to fit a cossie fuel regulator to mine

Do you have a photo of the lower alternator mount please.

Also do you know what side of the engine the DOHC alternator was originally mounted on. I ask as I have an old alternator from a CVH Sierra that im using to get an idea on how make up the brackets and that was mounted on the exhaust side so the top lug for the top adjuster bracket is too far round?

Its not that bad there arent that many wires

You could buy a pre made loom if you are worried about it. Thats what I intend to do

If you mean silvertop zetec then yes the short input type 9's fit straight up with the use of a spigot ring

Capri 2.8 type 9 would need some of the input shaft machining off or a spacer used.
