    first time zetec intall

    hey guys, im a new member to this forum and am about to drop a zetec into my '79 escort ghia. as im only 19 im going to keep the car a 1600 for a couple of years so i keep the insurance costs down. i am going to be running it on a weber 32/36 DGAV carb and a fiesta HCS ignition loom and ECU. i have also ordered all the conversion parts from Retroford and and have ordered a pinto clutch. I have already fitted a type 9 5 speed gearbox.

    I would like to know though what pit falls others have come across and how you overcame them. also has anybody in the lincs area done a zetec conversion who would be willing to let me come and have a look and a chat about the process? my main concern is the hoses! of course i would like my bay to look nice but i dont know of any companies who make coloured silicone hoses! and would it be wise to buy an alloy rad with a bigger capacity or will a standard escort rad be sufficient?

    Cheers

    james

    You would be better off using a megajolt ecu, they are only £70 and you combine it with the original coil pack and edis 4 unit. Have a look at my website for lots of info.

    I live in Lincolnshire, but car is stored near my work near Oxford, if I can help give me a shout.

    cheers for the offer i may take you up on it! the reason i am using the fiesta loom is because i have bought it complete with the modified CVH manifold from retro dave! as you may know he has just fitted the ST170 duratec motor into his mk2 and so i bought his old induction and ignition set up off him less the carb.

    i suppose the mega jolt kit however is mappable? but what is the EDIS unit? what would the benifits from using the mega jolt ecu be?

    cheers

    The EDIS is used on late fuel injected CVH engines (and others) as part of the ignition system. The megajolt is a fully mappable ECU that uses the EDIS and standard coil pack to control your ignition along with a built in MAP sensor. This will run your engine far better than the HCS ECU and I have a basic map you can use to get it running. Getting the ignition spot on will transform the car and improve response and economy.

    Where abouts in Lincolnshire are you based?

    On the zetec the EDIS is built into the ecu. The scrappy in sleaford is pretty cheap and helpful I'm sure they can sort you out. I have a spare which you could have until you can replace it for me? The megajolt will not know what type of carb you are using, so it wont matter.

    I'm in Metheringham by the way, not far from you.

    I'm in the middle of a full resto, upgrade and installation so you will beat me!!

    For megajolt info look at::

    And join this Yahoo group:

    Make sure you get the EDIS4 loom too. If you see any V6 24v Granadas or early Mondeo V6s they should have an EDIS6 unit let me know as I am after a couple.
