Looks well good, a perfect man pad !
Looks well good, a perfect man pad !
Sorry guys, not been keeping you up to date on this!!
Trying to update it when I'm at work but I've had to work and had no time, how bad is that!
Anyway, here I am on a Monday morning waiting for the boys to de-isolate the Test Cell, so thought I'd bring you up to speed
So that's after they removed all the cribbing the next day. It stayed like that for a week due to letting it cure properly plus waiting for some other things to fall into place.
Then they back filled with the earth we had already removed to allow build and also dug the holes for our 2 holding tanks.
We are on an acreage had have a drilled well. We decided not to try and connect to that and instead, have a tank for water and another for septic.
We can then have potable water delivered and the septic tank pumped out when needed.
It will save a lot on costs
Supplies ready to start framing
Cheers

Bloody hell you still out there I thought they would of deported you by now Looking good
So, I got home from Work on friday, ready to go camping for the weekend and this is what we get to see
Tanks delivered and put in the ground, walls going up and the first floor being made ready.
Happy days
Cheers

We then got home from camping on Sunday to find this.
The guys came in Saturday morning to catch up as the weather changed Thursday afternoon so they didn't get as much done as they wanted.
Can't wait to get home tonight and see what they've done
Cheers

I came home last night to this The guys couldn't do much on Monday as they were waiting for the trusses to turn up so they got the rest of the walls up then that was that.
The trusses turned up yesterday so they made a start on fitting the roof. It's starting to look real good now
Cheers

Hey Buddy
I know what you mean, I haven't been on for a while myself.
Tried to update the other day from a tablet but it all went Pete Tong
Car looks great, have you got a build thread for it? Not looked yet but when I get a chance, I will for sure
So, sorry I've fallen behind with pictures guys. It's been a combination of bad weather and me having to go away for some personal matters.
I'll try to get outside today and take some more/better pictures but these are the ones I was sent when I was away
Really taking shape
Concrete first pour
Now it's starting to look a lot more like a house
Cheers

That looks the bollocks now mate.
Bet you can wait to start moving the cars in. 😉
Do you still have the boggy and the fez-a-roo???

I've just started a build thread bud not a full build just a summary lol.

Yeh, really can't wait now
Got Kermit which technically is a boggo but in reality, not really
fez-a-roo and MK2 Mex with Cossy/group 5 kinda set up
Should keep me busy for a while
So, I wanted to just make sure I updated with the pictures
That was with the roof on and prepping for the slab pour. Having in floor heating so had to run all the lines.
Nice sunny day today All the sidings on and looking nearly done.
That's a temporary wall that has to go in for code. Once inspected and signed off, that's coming down.
Bathroom in the corner with built in shower for those really messy days
That's the mechanical room under the stairs. Boiler for hot water and the glycol heating system.
Upstairs will be for parts storage.
So I fitted a lift system so I can pull in downstairs on to the 4 post lift then crane up anything that's too big to carry up the stairs
Should be getting inspected next week then they'll start with the insulation and dry walling.
Going to look at either getting my lifts fitted or fit them myself. Might get them fitted as then I have a come back if I have any problems.
Now I'm back home, I'll try to keep this up to date
Cheers

Hey bud, sorry for no reply, just got caught up with everything else going on that I forgot to update!!
Anyway, lot's of progression, the shop is officially finished and signed off by the local authorities, so that's good news.
The inside has been painted and now I just need to organise things and set it up as I want it
Please excuse the following pictures, they were taken on my phone!
2 post & 4 post lifts/hoists are in
Parked up our trailer and our friends motorhome at the end of the shop for winter.
Had a socket put outside so it could be plugged in all the time.
Also got water and sceptic set up so it can be used as an extra room at home if needs be
Also looks good at night
Cheers

Kermit parked up in the corner
First lot of shelving to go up on the mezzanine. All the boxes are what I brought across from Blighty
removed all the mess from the other garages so we could park the cars in them. Means I need to organise the mess inside the shop now
I'm looking at some workbenches for the workshop area so I can start to organise my tools/equipment. I also need to get my tool boxes across from the other garage.
Will probably be another couple of weeks before it starts to look straight but we'll get there
Cheers

fantastic thread, fantastic photos: Really enjoyed following it this morning. I feel like I've been watching a more intersting version of Grand Designs. Thanks a lot
blimey, it looks like your going to be the next Gas Monkey we will be seeing you on telly building hot rods soon
wow, what a build, absolutely brilliant
Guess it just tops the motor club garage at brize 😂
lightening gone but never forgotton
fantastic space, very jealous and can only dream of a project like that over here
How's things bud?
Gone quite again.
I have made the decision to go it alone over here so we shall see how that one goes.

Insanely jealous of your build, would love that over here in the UK, but to have something like that I think several lottery wins would have to happen!
What's the going it alone Trig? New startup? I have run my own company for 16 years now and if I can offer any advice let me know
go for it, but think carefully about what you spend, dont buy anything because it would be nice to have, buy stuff only if you have to, or it will save you a serious amount of time.
starting a business you will encure a lot of expenses yo never even dreamt about.
when i went on my own a lot of people promised me work, which never materialised although i got a far bit from unexpected sources so it evened out.
if you keep things small i.e one man band, small workshop, you can make a living quite quickly, but unless your a crook you will never make any real money, if you go for decent sized premises and staff it will take much longer to actually get into profit. depends on your goal. with my business im playing the long game i have a nice big building, staff, big overheads and im starting to turn over a lot of money, another two years and i should actually be making a profit and reaping rewards but for now i work 60 hours plus a week, have only taken a couple of days off over the last 3 years, pay myself enough to cover my bills and thats it. dont even mention the word holiday in front of my other half!
Hi Guys
Really sorry I haven't been on here for a while, lots of life has been going on
Nothing bad, just having to work
Anyway, many thanks for all the nice messages. In reality, I hardly did anything when it came to building it however, I did have a lot to do with the design
I've also been doing a lot inside but I keep forgetting to take the decent camera out there to take pictures for you lot, only got the iphone which I've been using to put some stuff up on Facebook.
So, I'll use them and catch you up a bit
So I needed to look at the ramps for the 4 post. Because we recessed it down by 4 inches, the ramps didn't sit right.
Hoist all the way down
Can see how much difference there is in the height.
So, a trip to where one of my friends works and a quick session with a water jet..... et voila
Now I can start using the 4 post
Cheers

Next I started looking at my shelving I had acquired from work
I started putting this up in my workshop area. It's 10 feet tall and fits exactly. We were sent the wrong size wood to build the workshop area but we just went ahead with it, so glad we did otherwise that part would have only been 8 1/2 feet tall.
I then got my crane/overhead winch on as I was about to start some work on the Mezz
I was scouring the local equivalent of a 'for sale' website and came across a load more pallet racking for sale and the guy had to move out of his premises sharpish, so made an offer and deal done.
The end supports were about 2 inches too tall for the Mezz but I was able to cut the ends off just above a cross brace and they fitted great.
Cheers

So, whilst all that was going on I was on the hunt for some workbenches
So, in that picture they don't look like much but I had just got them out of my trailer and pushed them in there.
I had to take all the drawers out just so we could lift them but more on them in a bit
I'm always looking out for equipment to make the shop a good place to be so I went for a drive....
Not great weather and a bit of a drive but worth it for the cost.
Time to make use of the 2 post
It's all a balancing act
Landing zone clear, time for decent
Ready to be pushed into a corner until I work out where it needs to go.
Cheers

I wanted a deep laundry sink for washing hands or parts so found one that came as a whole unit for a good price so had that fitted as it meant changing piping in the wall
At the same time we started to look at the benches and how I wanted them laid out
I spoke with the guy who did some of the finishing in the shop and he said he was willing to put a worktop on for me.
So, I set up a time and left him to it....
I fitted cross braces to my shelves on the Mezz and added plywood tops
I also added a castor wheel to my crane to distribute the weight and roll freely
I came home one day to this
The finisher knew I was a tall lad and noticed that the work benches were quite low, so he put them on a plinth/pedestal which also doubled as a kick step.
He had even done it so I could get to the drain between the benches if ever needed! Genius
Only thing left is to start fitting the drawers
I fitted three and removed the plastic sheet but decided that would take too long and I wanted to get all the drawers up off the floor, so I fitted them all
All in and ready for the next bit.....
Cheers
Dazzle
......removing that protective film is testing to say the least!
One side done and I'm losing the will to live..
Finally the other side finished. Well, at least it looks good. Well, I think so anyway
Got myself another toy/tool
It's a 3 in 1 Shear, brake and roller. Hopefully it will come in useful when I start back on the FieSTi
Also got to use the crane. Work were throwing these out so one of the guys contacted me to ask if I wanted it for my shop. Good lad
That will help with storage/organising of parts on the Mezz
The work benches came with pegboards that you would normally fit as a backboard arrangement. Because of the decision to fit a worktop and the fact that the windows were in the way, we decided that wouldn't work.
So, my other half came up with a great idea to put them on the other wall between the windows.
And they fitted just great. One fitted....
And the next.
Really pleased with how they came out but now I need to acquire a lot of pegs
Next I fitted the TV to the wall. It was only a cheap one which I intend to use as a monitor mainly. Also added a sound bar which is good for listening to the radio.
I've used a primer/sealer on the worktop and I'm just waiting for some paint to finish it off.
I also drilled it for my vise
Cheers

And that's you guys pretty much caught up
I've still got lots I want to do but finding the time has been a bit of a pain.
I've also joined a car club out here who run track days throughout the year, so, it's time to carry out a bit of TLC on Kermit...
Our first track day is at a place called The Ridge in Seattle. It's a stupid long way to go but it should be great fun and we're going to use the time as a mini holiday so should work out really good.
It's on the 19th May so I'll make sure I get some pictures and if I have enough time, I want to somehow use my GoPro which I bought and never used
Cheers
